Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Lionel Matias (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Masao Nippo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Matias comes into the arena with Himno nacional argentino blaring out of the sound system. Lionel Matias could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Masao Nippo's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Lionel Matias! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Masao Nippo! The judges for this bout are Shigeki Fujiwara, Yasuomi Hirokawa and Shigeki Sano.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Matias has managed to clinch.
Nippo looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight! Nippo has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Matias after a bit of a struggle. Nippo is fighting off a takedown attempt but Matias is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Nippo to the mat. Nippo regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat. Matias slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up. Matias keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Nippo's head. Matias is pushing down on Nippo's leg trying to pass to half guard. Nippo is fighting to maintain full guard but Matias has managed to sneak the leg through. Matias winds up and cracks Nippo with a swinging punch to the side of the head. Matias looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Matias controlling the action here. Matias wants to pass the guard but Nippo is defending well.
That's one minute gone in the round. Nippo avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Matias. Matias is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Nippo defends it well. Nice strikes from Matias there. Matias decides to stand and escape the position. Lionel Matias seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Matias tries to bum rush Nippo with a series of wild strikes but Nippo uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Nippo tries to sprawl but Matias drives through with a takedown into half guard. Matias seems to be working for a kimura but Nippo defends the submission attempt. Matias working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that. Matias stands up and beckons Nippo to join him on the feet.
That's two minutes gone in the round. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Nippo tries to sprawl but Matias drives through with a takedown into half guard. Nippo looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights. Matias with a momentary lay and pray from half guard. Nippo is looking for a sweep. Matias is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Nippo is trying to get back to full guard. Still in half guard, Matias seems content to control.
The ref stands the fighters back up because Lionel Matias just wasn't active enough. Matias fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Nippo to the ground. Matias is now in Nippo's guard. Matias showing good wrestling skills to control the position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Nippo keeping full guard, as Matias tries to pass.
That's three minutes gone in the round. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Matias is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position. Matias seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Nippo for as long as he can get away with.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Lionel Matias. Matias scores with a takedown into Nippo's guard. Matias has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Nippo keeping full guard, as Matias tries to pass. Matias controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Matias in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Matias working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Nippo's head. Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! Matias thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. Matias is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact. Matias lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard. Matias stopping the sweep attempt from Nippo. Nippo is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Matias slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up. Nippo has momentary wrist control but Matias slips an elbow through the middle. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Lionel Matias dominated that round. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!
Nippo gets caught flat footed, as Matias shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. Matias content to stall in guard here. Lionel Matias overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Matias postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head. Matias pushing down on Nippo's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work. Matias seems like he's working for an arm triangle here. He's freed his trapped foot and he's rotating nicely. Nippo is in big trouble! He's tapping out! This one is aaaaaaaaaaaall over!
