Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Owen Odinson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and BJ Penn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Odinson comes to the cage accompanied by Live to Rise by Soundgarden. Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Owen Odinson! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 6 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, BJ Penn! The judges for this bout are Sergei Dronov, Viktor Lagutenko and Aleksandr Martynov.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Penn defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Odinson. Odinson shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Odinson feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. Penn keeping moving, preventing Odinson from controlling successfully. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Penn can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Odinson controls the pace. Odinson working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Penn is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Odinson throwing strikes but missing. Odinson throwing strikes but missing. Penn is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control. Odinson trying to control but Penn is working from the bottom. Odinson is in a tricky position. We've heard reports from his gym mates at Red Square Gym that he's been drilling escapes, so let's see if he can get back to his feet.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Odinson shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Penn pinned against the cage. Penn gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Owen Odinson. That's going to take a lot out of him. Odinson goes for a double leg but Penn avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Penn continues to drive forward. Penn successfully pulls guard.
Odinson throws an elbow that misses. Penn uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Odinson's guard. Nice move by Penn! Odinson has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Odinson throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Odinson is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Odinson throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Penn escapes and throws Odinson's legs to the side, diving into side control! Odinson is trying to improve his position. Odinson gets back to half guard. Odinson lands one or two decent shots to the body here. Although from his own half guard, he's not going to be causing too much damage. The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Odinson wants to get back to full guard. Penn wants to stand up but Odinson has a hold of him and won't allow it.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Penn wants to take a breather but Odinson is having none of it. Odinson looking for submissions off his back. Odinson is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Penn pulls his head out easily. Penn is thwarting Odinson's attempts to control the position. Odinson tries to get to full guard but Penn has control of the leg. Still in half guard, Penn seems content to control.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up. Odinson is looking to improve his position.
OK we're going to have a standup here. BJ Penn hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart. Penn scores with a one two! Odinson had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes. Odinson tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Penn swivels and escapes. Penn misses with a takedown attempt - Odinson sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Penn shoots in for a double leg but Odinson sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Odinson shoots in and drives through. Penn sprawls well. Penn tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Odinson swivels and escapes. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Odinson will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Penn tries for a takedown but Odinson sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. Penn looks winded! The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Odinson with a lazy takedown attempt and Penn counters with a low kick, right behind Odinson 's knee. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Owen Odinson dominated that round. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.
Odinson closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Penn quickly recovers to half guard. Penn avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Odinson. Odinson is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound. Odinson seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime. Odinson throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Penn on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound. Odinson seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Penn does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. Odinson with a momentary lay and pray from half guard. Odinson is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Penn defends it well. Penn looking for submissions from an awkward position here. Penn tries to roll over but Odinson keeps him under control.

Penn is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Odinson scores with a couple of nice shots.

Odinson is nestled in close to Penn, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure. This has been an exciting period of action! Odinson trying to mount his opponent but Penn defends it. Odinson is taking a breather. Penn says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Odinson is trying to control. Penn wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. Well, if Odinson is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Odinson is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Penn can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Odinson fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Penn tries to clinch but Odinson moves out of range. Odinson fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Penn rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Odinson moves out of range and avoids them all easily. Penn tests Odinson's chin there with a solid looking shot. Odinson stuffs the takedown. Odinson fails with the takedown and Penn counters with a good low kick that Odinson was not able to check. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Owen Odinson. That's going to take a lot out of him. Penn tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Odinson manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Odinson shoots in looking for a takedown but Penn manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Odinson's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. Penn gets in close and instigates a clinch. Odinson takes a knee right on the jaw!

Penn tries to clinch but Odinson is having none of it. Odinson has his takedown stuffed and Penn counters by clinching up. Penn gets control of Odinson's arms and successfully pulls guard. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Odinson lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears. BJ Penn has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Owen Odinson is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Odinson trying to control from half guard but Penn is working away.
And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Owen Odinson. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Odinson, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent.
