PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Stripe Pipey (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lyoto Machida (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pipey gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Machida counters with a nice double leg into side control. Pipey won't be happy with that.

Machida is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Pipey has escaped the position, nice work there.
Pipey is looking to reverse the position.
Pipey seems a little lost for a moment, as Machida dominates the positioning.

Machida is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Pipey is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Pipey is looking for a sweep.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Pipey misses with a strike from the bottom.
Pipey on the wrong end of some ground and pound.
Machida moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.
Pipey tries to improve position but can't.

Machida decides to stand up, so the ref orders Pipey to his feet.
Machida tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Pipey paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Pipey throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Machida's waist but Machida gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Pipey off to one side.

Pipey gets in close and instigates a clinch.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Machida tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Both fighters working to control the clinch.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Pipey manages to pull guard.
Pipey has control of Machida's left arm, preventing Machida from doing any damage.
Machida has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Pipey is proving hard to escape from.
Machida keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Pipey's head.
Machida is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Pipey wants to sweep but no luck.
Machida looking to pass the guard.

Pipey not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Machida engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Pipey works over Machida's head and body with a nice combination.
Machida shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Pipey but Pipey pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Machida tries to clinch up but Pipey circles away and keeps his distance.
Machida throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Pipey lands a head kick!

Pipey throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Machida was covering up waiting for the punch and Pipey finishes the takedown easily into guard.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Machida seems keen to control Pipey's posture.

Machida throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Pipey escapes and throws Machida's legs to the side, diving into side control!
Machida misses with an elbow from the bottom.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Pipey looking to control but instead Machida has slipped a leg in, to regain half guard.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Lyoto Machida dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Pipey shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Machida counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Pipey!
Pipey is looking to reverse the position.
Machida wants to stand but Pipey is controlling his arm.
Pipey is looking for a sweep.
Pipey is working hard here to advance position.
Machida working the head and body with strikes.
Pipey knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Machida on the ground.
Pipey is looking to regain half guard here but Machida keeps moving and retains side control.

Machida lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.

Machida has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
