Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
7 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Miguel Grace! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Diego Diaz! The judges for this bout are Patrick Alders, Paul Aken and Paulsen Ambrosius.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Grace shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Diaz manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage. Grace avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Diaz has his foot on Grace's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Grace works his way back into a safe position though. Diaz working for a triangle but Grace defends it easily.
Diaz is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Grace defends well. Grace stopping the sweep attempt from Diaz. That's one minute gone in the round. Grace thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves. Grace postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Grace avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Diaz looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Diaz looks winded! Diaz is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Grace defends well. Grace drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Diaz dives on top into guard. Grace has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Grace pulls Diaz in close to prevent any damage. Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! Grace keeping moving, preventing Diaz from controlling successfully. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Grace is on top in guard.
Grace wants to control from the top but Diaz keeps moving. Grace preventing the sweep. Diaz is trying to control the position but Grace postures up. Grace postures up in Diaz's guard and throws a big left but Diaz blocks it. Grace drops back looking for a submission - "I'm sorry sir, but I'm gunna break your leg" says Grace as he cranks on the unfortunate limb! Diaz screams and taps out before any major damage is done! Don't mess with Grace! Nice submission victory there!
