PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Arlen Randall (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rot Rahman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Arlen Randall!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Rot Rahman!
The judges for this bout are Chris Saunders, Ryoma Takatsuka and Josh West.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Randall walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.


It looks like Arlen Randall has been cut.
Rahman tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Randall swivels and escapes.
Randall misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Randall dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Rahman. That did some damage!
Randall throws a sloppy head kick and Rahman moves out of range easily.

Rahman drives through and clinches with Randall against the cage.

Randall has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Rahman uses from the top position.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Rahman is looking to stand up but Randall won't let him.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Randall keeping moving, preventing Rahman from controlling successfully.
Randall is trying to control the position but Rahman postures up.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Rahman wanted to stand there but Randall had control of the position.
Rahman pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Randall is keeping the position for now.

Rahman seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Rot Rahman.
Rahman stuffs the takedown.
Rahman tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Rahman circles away from the clinch attempt.
Horrible takedown by Rahman or perhaps it was just good defense by Randall which made him look bad.
Rahman throws a head kick but Randall moves out of range.
Randall darts in trying to clinch
and Rahman counters with a lovely shot to the body.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Randall goes for a double leg but Rahman avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Rahman continues to drive forward.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Arlen Randall. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Rahman manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.

Randall jumps guard and drags Rahman to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Rahman slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Rahman wants to control from the top but Randall keeps moving.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Randall controls Rahman momentarily but Rahman frees himself.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Rot Rahman was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Randall shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Rahman but Rahman pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Rahman shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Randall sprawls well. Randall wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Rahman gets slowly back to his feet.
Rahman goes for a double leg but Randall avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Randall continues to drive forward.
Randall prevents Rahman from breaking the clinch.
Rahman fails to pull the fight into his guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Rahman looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Randall keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Rahman's efforts to push away.
Both fighters working to control the clinch.
Rahman struggles to land a body shot inside as Randall controls his hands.
Rahman tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Randall just stands there and leans against the cage.

Randall changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Rahman fights it off and pushes away nicely.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Randall lands with a kick to the temple. Rahman shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rot Rahman dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Arlen Randall's cut.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Randall fails with a takedown attempt.


It looks like Rot Rahman has been cut.
Horrible takedown by Randall or perhaps it was just good defense by Rahman which made him look bad.
Randall swats away the attempt to clinch by Rahman.
Rahman scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Randall goes for a double leg but Rahman avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Rahman continues to drive forward.

Randall gets an overhook and lands an elbow to the side of the head.
Rahman jumps guard but Randall stands there with Rahman around his waist. Rahman gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Rahman sitting in guard, not really doing much.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Rahman throws a big right hand that misses.

Rahman stands up from Randall's guard - Rahman perhaps looking for a knockout.
Rahman scores with a jab to the body.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
The fight stays on the outside here - Randall looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Rahman tries a head kick but it misses.
Rahman misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Arlen Randall is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Rahman.
Rahman shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Randall pinned against the cage. Randall gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Randall could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Rahman shoots in looking for a takedown. Randall tries to sprawl out of it but Rahman keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Randall manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Rahman tries to close the distance and clinch up but Randall swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Rahman rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Randall moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Randall gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Randall gets underhooks to prevent Rahman's takedown attempt.
The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Rahman. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.

Randall escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Rahman has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
Randall shoots in for a takedown but Rahman shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Randall shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Rahman's guard.
Rahman looking for a sweep. Not yet Rahman, not yet.
Randall wants to stand but Rahman is controlling his posture from full guard.

Rahman is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.

Rahman tries to break the clinch but Randall is controlling the position.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Randall pulls guard.

Randall throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Rahman escapes and throws Randall's legs to the side, diving into side control!

Rahman decides to stand back up. Rahman steps back and let's Randall get back to his feet.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Randall avoids a punch combination nicely.
Randall fails to land the takedown.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Rot Rahman will probably get the nod - 10:9.
Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!


Rahman fails with the takedown.
Rahman will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Randall.
Rahman throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Rahman misses with a jab, cross combination.
Rahman stuffs the takedown.
Rahman misses with a takedown attempt - Randall sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Arlen Randall has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Rot Rahman.
Rahman takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Randall has closed the distance and engaged Rahman in a clinch.

Rahman shoots in for a takedown but Randall shows good takedown defense.

Randall tries to pull guard but Rahman holds him up against the cage and eventually Randall drops back down to his feet.

Rahman avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Some stalling of biblical proportions here from Randall.
Rahman gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Randall.
Randall is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Rahman gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.

Randall breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Randall fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Rahman avoids it really well and circles away.
Randall slaps away a takedown attempt from Rahman, before circling back to the center of the mat.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Randall tries to score a power double leg takedown but Rahman sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Randall somewhat.
Rahman moves in looking to clinch but Randall pushes him off.
Randall throws a sloppy body shot
and Randall takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Rahman changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Randall tries to avoid it but Rahman manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Randall to the ground. Randall escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Randall stuffs the takedown.
Nice sprawl there from Randall as Rahman shoots in.

Rahman tries to sprawl but Randall drives through with a takedown into half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Rahman won't allow Randall to pass to mount.
Rahman trying to control but Randall postures up.
Randall trying to control from half guard but Rahman is working away.
Rahman is looking for a sweep. Randall is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Randall seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Rahman does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Rahman is trying to control but can't.
Arlen Randall has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Rot Rahman is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

We're going to have a standup here because Arlen Randall wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Randall looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

And that's the end of the fight!
Arlen Randall showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Rahman has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
