Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Roosevelt Stafford! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jesus Chirst! The judges for this bout are Emerson Jorge, Matheus Silva and Felipe Paraventi.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Chirst shoots for a takedown but Stafford saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Chirst has closed the distance and engaged Stafford in a clinch.
Stafford looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now. Chirst wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Stafford has him pressed against the cage. Chirst manages to break the clinch.
Chirst throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Chirst tries to close the distance and clinch but Stafford swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Stafford gets a takedown into half guard. We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace. Stafford controlling the pace. Chirst is looking to get back to is feet but Stafford passes into side control.
Stafford landing a few strikes. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Chirst tries to strike but it doesn't land. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's one minute gone in the round. Stafford happy to just control the position for now. Chirst taking a bit of punishment here - Stafford scoring with strikes. Stafford has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Chirst is being controlled here. Stafford really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Stafford tries for a kimura but Chirst is defending well. Stafford advances nicely into full mount. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Stafford sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Stafford looking to finish Chirst with some ground and pound. This is bad for Chirst!
That's three minutes gone in the round. Stafford raining down hammerfists from mount. Chirst has given up his back here.
Chirst is trying to get to his feet but he's left his neck exposed and Stafford manages to sink in a rear naked choke! Great counter grappling by Stafford!
