PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Sherwood Stevenson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alek Balek (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Alek Balek told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Sherwood Stevenson! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Alek Balek! The judges for this bout are Sosuke Kotani, Tatsuya Matsuyama and Yasuomi Hirokawa.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Balek throws a body kick but he was well out of range there. Stevenson swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
The fight moves into the clinch position. Stevenson tries to score a body lock takedown but Balek shows good agility there to stay on his feet. Stevenson really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Stevenson is trying to break the clinch but Balek has him pressed against the cage. Balek breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Balek checks a low kick from Stevenson. Stevenson takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?
Balek lands a slapping body shot.
Stevenson just misses with a punch to the body.
Balek shoots in looking for a takedown but Stevenson manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Balek's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. Stevenson closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Balek quickly recovers to half guard. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Balek is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Stevenson looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
That's one minute gone in the round. Balek is looking to escape. Balek is trying to control but can't.
Stevenson will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Balek is trying to escape back to his feet but Stevenson uses the scramble to pass into side control.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy. Stevenson trying to control the action but Balek is working from the bottom.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Stevenson throwing strikes but missing, from side control. Stevenson tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily. Balek wants to get back to his feet. Stevenson controls the position. Balek is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Stevenson's leg. Oh but that's left an opportunity for Stevenson! He's got an arm triangle... it looks tight! He's rotating and Balek has tapped! This one is allllll over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:50 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). Sherwood Stevenson!
