Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Suan Paredes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Eddy Maiden (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Maiden has chosen Walk as his entrance music. Eddy Maiden has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
16 - 11 - 0, fighting out of New York, Suan Paredes! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
11 - 7 - 0, fighting out of New York, Eddy Maiden! The judges for this bout are John Kavanagh, Franklyn Lucas and Russell Pearce.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Paredes is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Maiden. Paredes gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup. Maiden throwing strikes from guard but Paredes blocks nicely. Maiden controlling from the top position. Maiden tries to free his leg and advance position but Paredes is retaining full guard. Maiden is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact. Paredes looking to hit a scissor sweep but Maiden is one step ahead there. Maiden postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
That's one minute gone in the round. Paredes wants to sweep but no luck. Paredes trying to control the position.
Maiden is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions. Paredes working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Maiden. Maiden is in close to Paredes's body, working some short punches and elbows. Maiden trying to control but Paredes is working from the bottom. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Maiden engaging in some classic timewasting tactics. Maiden wants to control from the top but Paredes keeps moving. Maiden has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Maiden throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Paredes looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight. Maiden tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Maiden tries a low kick but Paredes avoids it. Maiden jabbing away but nothing is landing. Paredes throws a body punch but Maiden moves out of range. Paredes throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Maiden counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. Maiden lands a right hook to the body.
Maiden dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Paredes. That did some damage!
That's three minutes gone in the round. Paredes stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Paredes wants it to stay on the feet. Paredes on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those. Paredes needs to keep his hands up - Maiden had a free shot at his head there. Paredes fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Eddy Maiden seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. The fight stays on the outside here - Maiden looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Paredes looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Maiden is fending him off so far but Paredes persists. Nope, Maiden circles away and we're back to standing. Maiden misses with an attempted mid kick.
Both fighters circling a little - Maiden finishes the exchange with a kick to the body. Maiden lands with an overhand left. Maiden throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Paredes makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range. Maiden pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Maiden is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot. Maiden punishes Paredes's body with a nice straight punch. Paredes avoids the head kick by Maiden.
Good standup being displayed there by Maiden as he connects with a hook. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Paredes shoots and misses and Maiden counters by clinching up. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Suan Paredes. That's going to take a lot out of him. Maiden pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Maiden with a jab. Maiden avoids a punch combination nicely.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Maiden doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body. Maiden rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Paredes counters with a stiff right hand. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Maiden scores with a jab to the jaw. Maiden thuds a left hand into Paredes's body. Maiden ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Paredes moves away. Maiden lands an overhand right. A kick lands to the mid section there for Maiden. Maiden uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook. Maiden has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight. Maiden lands an overhand right. Paredes on the wrong end of a nice hook. Paredes walks into a jab. Maiden gets a takedown into half guard. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Maiden with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Maiden wants to free his trapped foot but Paredes is holding on for dear life with his legs. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Paredes is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Maiden's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Maiden's back! Paredes punches Maiden on the ear. Maiden rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! The ref stands the fighters back up. Eddy Maiden was stalling too much, according to the referee. Maiden throws a good cross that connects.

Eddy Maiden showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!
Paredes tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Maiden was well out of range. Poor timing from Paredes. Maiden throws a head kick that misses. Paredes is looking to wear down Maiden with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment. Maiden is trying hard to land a takedown here. Maiden will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Paredes shoots and misses and Paredes takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. Eddy Maiden seems to be getting the better of the standup. Paredes shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it. Paredes dives in for a single leg takedown but Maiden sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

Paredes keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Maiden moves into range and lands a nice leg kick. Maiden misses with a straight right. Maiden tries to land a front kick but Paredes steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed. Paredes decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. Eddy Maiden has got the better of the ground game so far. Maiden avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Paredes. Suan Paredes has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Paredes winds up and cracks Maiden with a swinging punch to the side of the head. OK we're going to have a standup here. Eddy Maiden hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart. Maiden clinches. Maiden throws a head punch that misses. Paredes has Maiden pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Maiden manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Suan Paredes. That's going to take a lot out of him. Maiden misses with a punch to the body.

And that's the end of the fight! Eddy Maiden comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. Well Maiden has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today.
