Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Merlin Curtis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Grayson Cooper (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Merlin Curtis! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Grayson Cooper! The judges for this bout are George Francis, Cecil Peabody and Robert Twigg.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Curtis fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Cooper avoids it really well and circles away. Cooper looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight! Cooper instigates a clinch. Cooper tries to break free but Curtis pushes him back against the cage. Curtis pulls Cooper into guard.
Curtis is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Curtis takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position. Curtis is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. Curtis tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Cooper. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Cooper can do anything to dispel that myth.
That's one minute gone in the round. Curtis sitting and controlling from the half guard. Curtis sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Cooper defending well though. Curtis seems to be working for a kimura but Cooper defends the submission attempt. Curtis will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Curtis wants to advance to full mount but Cooper doesn't think that's going to happen and regains full guard instead.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Curtis stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Cooper swivels though and keeps the full guard. Cooper bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Curtis's guard. Cooper won't allow Curtis to sweep him here. Curtis working for a triangle but Cooper defends it easily.
Curtis is trying to control the position but Cooper postures up. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Cooper wants to pass the guard but Curtis is keeping the position. Curtis wants to stand and escape but Cooper is having none of it.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Merlin Curtis. Cooper fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Curtis feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. Curtis really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Curtis with a flurry of punches that miss.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Curtis is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control. Curtis trying to stand up but can't free himself from Cooper's guard. We've been informed that Cooper has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Curtis trying to control the position from guard on top but Cooper is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Merlin Curtis. Curtis tries to close the distance and clinch up but Cooper swats him away and circles back towards the center. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Curtis gets in close and instigates a clinch. Curtis ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Curtis no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Merlin Curtis dominated that round. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.
Cooper with a poor takedown and Curtis counters by clinching up. Cooper working hard to break the clinch. Cooper avoids a wild elbow strike from Curtis. Curtis breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Curtis tries to roll over but Cooper keeps him under control. Cooper passes to side control. Curtis tries to get back to half guard but can't. The referee tells the fighters to keep busy. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Merlin Curtis dominated that second round. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!
Cooper displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Curtis. Merlin Curtis is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Curtis shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Cooper as he avoids it easily. Cooper fails in his attempt to clinch. Curtis fails with a takedown attempt. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Merlin Curtis. That's going to take a lot out of him. Curtis with a poor takedown and Cooper counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work. Cooper changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Curtis looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Curtis is looking for a sweep. Cooper wants to lay and pray for a moment but Curtis keeps working. Curtis seems a little lost for a moment, as Cooper dominates the positioning. Both fighters are breathing heavily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Cooper lands some shots froms side control. Merlin Curtis overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Curtis gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard. Cooper trying to pass the guard but Curtis defending well. Cooper wants to control but Curtis is keeping him busy. Curtis wants to get back to full guard. Cooper passes the guard and advances to mount! Cooper prevents Curtis from getting the reversal.

Cooper looking to control but Curtis is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. Cooper wants to control the action but instead Curtis gets a body lock and reverses into Cooper's guard! Nice work! Curtis is looking to work some ground and pound but Cooper has wrist control.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Curtis slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard. Curtis trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Curtis closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Cooper's guard. Cooper looking to control.

Grayson Cooper has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Merlin Curtis is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Curtis moves into side control, avoiding a weak kimura attempt from Cooper.
And that's the end of the fight! I would just about give that final round to Grayson Cooper. Well Curtis has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
