The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Putting misses with a few strikes there.
Penn has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Penn there as he acknowledges the shot. Putting is looking to clinch. We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Putting has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat. A left and a right from Putting both land. Nice combination. Putting tries to clinch but Penn moves out of range. Left hook, right uppercut from Putting. Penn swats away the attempt to clinch by Putting. Putting throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Penn. Putting works Penn's body with a nice hook. Putting tries to close the distance and clinch but Penn swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Putting moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination. This has been an exciting period of action! Penn showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Putting.
Putting tries to clinch but fails miserably and Penn counters with a nice double leg into side control. Putting won't be happy with that. The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet. Penn is working for what looks like an arm triangle here. Putting is trying to escape and Penn transitions quickly into an armbar! He's slapped it on tight and Putting is forced to tap! Nice work there by Penn! Very nice indeed!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:58 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). BabyJay Penn! A relieved looking BabyJay Penn thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
