Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Wayne Conway (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rick James (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rick James will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Wayne Conway!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Rick James!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Timothy Bukovac and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
James is looking to land body kicks.
James looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Conway tries to land a leg kick but James saw it coming and moves away.
Conway fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
James fails with the takedown.
Conway pivots, looking for a leg kick but James is out of range and Conway settles back down.
James dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Conway could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Conway rushes James and presses him up against the cage.

James breaks from the clinch.
Conway gets off balance looking for a body kick
and James counters with an outside leg kick.
James tries for a takedown but Conway sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Conway fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but James avoids it really well and circles away.
Conway throws a series of punches but James moves out of range.

Conway throws a sloppy head kick and James moves out of range easily.
Conway has a takedown stuffed.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Wayne Conway. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Conway fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
James lands with a nice combination. Conway backs away looking to recover.
Conway fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but James avoids it really well and circles away.

James has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Conway is landing a low percentage of strikes.

James wants to clinch up but Conway keeps it at a distance.

James defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Conway.

Conway has managed to clinch.
James wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
James is trying to pull guard but Conway turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.

Conway escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

and Conway counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Conway.

James gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Conway.

Conway jumps into guard, dragging James to the mat.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
James is fighting to break Conway's control of his arms but Conway is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

James really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Conway. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Conway has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

and Conway counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Conway.

James shoots in looking for a takedown. Conway tries to sprawl out of it but James keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Conway manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Conway is defended easily by James.

James is breathing heavily.

Conway slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

Conway stands up and we're back to a striking position.

James tries to keep at a distance but Conway has taken the fight into the clinch.

Conway is trying to trip James. He has hold of a leg but James is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Conway persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
Conway slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Conway might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Conway postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Conway controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Wayne Conway.

Conway clinches.
James has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Conway after a bit of a struggle.
Wayne Conway has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Rick James.

Conway kicks James off and gets to his feet.
Conway tries for a takedown but James sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

James looks to land a left hand but Conway moved out of range nicely.
Rick James seems to be getting the better of the standup.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Conway changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. James tries to avoid it but Conway manages to keep hold of a leg and drag James to the ground. James escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Conway tries to break the clinch but James is controlling the position.
James tries to pull guard but Conway won't allow it.

Conway pulls guard effortlessly.
Conway is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
James trying to control but Conway is working from the bottom.

James avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Conway had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. James defends it easily.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Conway is on top in guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
James looking to hit a scissor sweep but Conway is one step ahead there.
Conway throwing strikes but missing.
Conway slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Conway taking a breather here.

James managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Conway.
Conway sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but James is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.

Conway stands up.
Conway lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.

Conway closes the distance and clinches.
Conway scores with an uppercut up the middle.
Conway has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.

James has had enough of the clinch but Conway keeps him there for the moment.
Conway is struggling to control the position.
Conway throws a knee to the head but misses.

Conway pulls James into guard.
James is looking to pass into half guard but Conway pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Conway is in guard.

Conway stands and steps away. James gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
