Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Gavin Duff! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Witaliy Michilov! The judges for this bout are Marco Blurström, Tarja Halkonen and Johanna Lukiainen.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Duff shoots for a double leg takedown but Michilov sprawls well. He's pushed Duff's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Duff looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this! Duff misses with a takedown attempt and Michilov counters with a single leg into guard. Duff didn't expect that. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace. Michilov is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Michilov is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Duff is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Duff has escaped and now he's on top! Michilov has Duff pulled in close to control his posture. Michilov trying to keep a closed guard but Duff is proving a slippery customer.
That's one minute gone in the round. A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Michilov holds on and takes a little breather.
The ref stands the fighters back up. Witaliy Michilov was stalling too much, according to the referee. Duff fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Michilov avoids it really well and circles away. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Gavin Duff. That's going to take a lot out of him. Duff misses with a takedown attempt and Michilov counters with a nice double leg into half guard. Michilov is looking for a kimura but Duff is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Michilov to get the leverage. Duff is trying to maintain the position but Michilov is very close to passing his half guard. Michilov is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Duff defends it well.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. This has been an exciting period of action! Michilov is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! Duff defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Michilov. Michilov jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Duff manages to avoid the submission attempt. Michilov thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Michilov is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Duff has escaped the position, nice work there.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Michilov tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Michilov has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Michilov has hold of Duff's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Duff seems comfortable defending it but Michilov has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Duff is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Duff is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Michilov couldn't care less - he's delighted!
