The judges for this bout are Aleksandr Martynov, Aleksei Zolotukhin and Sergei Dronov.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Clifton darts in looking for a takedown but Newman gets double underhooks and turns Clifton into the cage.
Newman has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Clifton avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Newman goes for a takedown attempt but Clifton pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Clifton shoots in but Newman avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Newman misses with a head kick.
Clifton bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Clifton is looking to take a break and control but Newman is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Clifton wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Newman, who protects the arm well.

Clifton tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Clifton is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Newman is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Newman is trying to get back to his feet.
You can see the frustration on Newman's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Clifton is trying to get an arm triangle but Newman is defending well.
Newman is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Clifton is one step ahead and moves to full mount!

Newman tries to lock up and control but Clifton gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Clifton wants to control the pace but Newman is squirming around nicely.
Newman really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Clifton is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Newman can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
