PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Douglas Quaid (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ray Robinson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Quaid's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Total Recall. Ray Robinson will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 4 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Douglas Quaid!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Ray Robinson!
The judges for this bout are Valeri Chadov, Illya Tyunina and Fedor Mirinova.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Robinson keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Quaid swings away with a body shot that misses
and Robinson counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Robinson's coach down at Russian Top Team (elite gym) was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Robinson's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.
Robinson changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
Quaid lands a nice shot that snaps Robinson's head back.
Quaid misses the shot to the body.
Quaid scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Robinson doesn't seem bothered though.
Quaid connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
No joy there for Robinson, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Robinson lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Quaid circles away quickly and effectively.
Quaid lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Robinson at a distance.

Quaid ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Robinson moves away.

Robinson lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Quaid circles away quickly and effectively.
Quaid throws a hook to the side of Robinson's head but Robinson sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Quaid tries to clinch but Robinson is having none of it.
Quaid throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Robinson sees it coming and avoids it easily.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Quaid looks to score with a jab to the body but Robinson is just out of range.

Robinson is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.

Robinson tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Quaid paws at him with a jab and circles away.

The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows.

Quaid digs a right hand into Robinson's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Robinson's gas tank.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Quaid lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage.

A short body shot lands from Quaid as the two fighters clinch.
Quaid lands with a left to the head.
Quaid gets through Robinson's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Quaid gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Robinson regains guard.
Quaid tries to free his leg and advance position but Robinson is retaining full guard.
Quaid works over Robinson with some ground and pound from guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Quaid prevents Robinson from getting back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Quaid closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Robinson did well to prevent Quaid getting side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Quaid is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Robinson has hold of Quaid's hands but Quaid slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Quaid has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Quaid thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Robinson's head.
Robinson is trying to stand back up but Quaid is controlling him

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Quaid connects with a nice short shot to Robinson's temple.
Douglas Quaid overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Quaid wants to lay and pray for a moment but Robinson keeps working.
Quaid looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Quaid is trying to control the action in half guard but Robinson is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Quaid looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Quaid is keen to just control but Robinson is a slippery customer.
Robinson wants to get back to his feet.
Robinson keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Quaid is nestled in close to Robinson, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Quaid is just content to waste time from the top position. Robinson takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
Quaid wants to pass the guard but Robinson is keeping the position.

Quaid is looking to take a break and control but Robinson is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Robinson is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Quaid is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Robinson can do to turn this around?

Oooooh, big shot lands for Quaid! Robinson is hurt baaadly! Quaid is firing away with more strikes - Robinson is covering up... the ref is warning him to do something. He's just covering up though still and the ref has to step in to end the fight! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:57 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Douglas Quaid!
Douglas Quaid decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
