Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Tatsuya Kawajiri!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Miguel Taurus!
The judges for this bout are Aafke Stam, Radbod Blank and Daniel Blasius.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Taurus lands with a thumping leg kick.
Kawajiri has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
Taurus throws a nice outside leg kick.
Taurus goes for a high kick. It partially lands.
A chopping leg kick lands by Taurus.
Taurus scores with a head kick.
Taurus fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Taurus throws a leg kick which misses Kawajiri's front leg but catches the back leg as Kawajiri tries to avoid it.
Taurus throws a head kick but Kawajiri moves out of range.
Kawajiri has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Taurus.
Taurus dives in and grabs Kawajiri's left leg, looking for a takedown. Kawajiri pushes down on Taurus's head and hops out.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Kawajiri avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Taurus throws a leg kick but Kawajiri sees it coming and moves out of range.
A nice leg kick lands there from Taurus.

A punch lands to the side of Kawajiri 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Taurus fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Kawajiri has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.

Taurus instigates a clinch.
Taurus tries a knee to the head but Kawajiri blocks it.

Taurus looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Kawajiri has Taurus pressed up against the ropes and is working for takedown. Taurus manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Taurus with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.
Taurus looking to throw knees to the head but Kawajiri is blocking nicely.
Kawajiri is hobbling a little on that front leg after taking quite a few leg kicks so far in this fight.

Kawajiri has Taurus pressed up against the ropes. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Kawajiri pulls back from the ropes and twists to the side, sending Taurus tumbling to the mat - Kawajiri dives into Taurus's guard.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

Kawajiri is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Kawajiri lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.

Taurus is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Kawajiri tries to free his leg and advance position but Taurus is retaining full guard.

Taurus had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Kawajiri defends it easily.

Kawajiri slips nicely into half guard.
Kawajiri is thwarting Taurus's attempts to control the position.

Taurus is defending against the submission attempts here by Kawajiri.

Taurus looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.

Kawajiri is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Taurus doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Kawajiri.
Kawajiri looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Taurus with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Taurus is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Kawajiri is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.

Taurus actively working from the bottom here.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!

Kawajiri is looking for a kimura but Taurus is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Kawajiri to get the leverage.

Kawajiri is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Kawajiri is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Taurus defends it well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Miguel Taurus dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Taurus changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Kawajiri tries to avoid it but Taurus manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Kawajiri to the ground. Kawajiri escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Kawajiri tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
Kawajiri on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.
Taurus dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Kawajiri. That did some damage!
Taurus is looking to slow Kawajiri down with leg kicks.
A nice leg kick lands there from Taurus.
Taurus dives in and grabs Kawajiri's left leg, looking for a takedown. Kawajiri pushes down on Taurus's head and hops out.
Taurus walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Kawajiri checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.
Nice takedown defense from Kawajiri. No joy for Taurus on that attempt.
Tatsuya Kawajiri has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Miguel Taurus.

Kawajiri tries to keep at a distance but Taurus has taken the fight into the clinch.

Taurus tries a knee to the head but he's missed.

Kawajiri turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Taurus takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.

Kawajiri is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Taurus is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Kawajiri has hold of Taurus's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Taurus seems comfortable defending it but Kawajiri has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Taurus is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Taurus is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Kawajiri couldn't care less - he's delighted!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:30 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Tatsuya Kawajiri!
After winning the bout, Tatsuya Kawajiri thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
