Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Matt Carlson! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Trey Wilson! The judges for this bout are Aleksandr Martynov, Fedor Mirinova and Ivan Kurochkin.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Wilson closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. Wilson looking to pass the half guard. Not this time. Wilson looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Carlson is trying to maintain the position but Wilson is very close to passing his half guard. Wilson is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Carlson doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Wilson. Carlson is breathing heavily. Wilson trying to mount his opponent but Carlson defends it. Wilson passes to full mount!
That's one minute gone in the round. Wilson is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Carlson has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Carlson tries to lock up and control but Wilson gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. Wilson blocks Carlson's feeble attempts to strike from the bottom. Wilson is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Carlson can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Wilson jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Carlson is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Carlson and Wilson has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
Wilson is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Carlson knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. Wilson is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Carlson has escaped the position, nice work there.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Wilson tries to move into full mount but can't pass Carlson's legs. Wilson has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Carlson is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Wilson yanks on the arm and Carlson is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Wilson.
