PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between John Sack (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Choel Six (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). John Sack could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Choel Six's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, John Sack!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 15 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Choel Six!
The judges for this bout are Jeff Smith, Josh West and Ryoma Takatsuka.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Some bone on bone action there as Sack checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.

Sack closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Six's guard.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Six trying to control the position.
Sack postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Sack stands up over Six, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Six throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
Sack working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Six's head.

Sack really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Sack is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of John Sack.
Six throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Six closes the distance and clinches up with Sack, looking for a takedown. Six pushes Sack against the cage but Sack circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Six throws a front kick that sends Sack stumbling back into the cage.

Sack has managed to clinch.
Six jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Sack walks away with a smile on his face. Six gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Six is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Sack.
Six just misses with a punch to the body.
Six keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Six shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Sack as he avoids it easily.
John Sack has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Choel Six.
The fight stays on the outside here - Six looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Six tries to clinch up.

Sack instigates a clinch.

Sack breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Six tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Sack manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Six should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

Six gets caught napping as Sack dives in and scores a takedown. Six manages to retain guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Sack is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Sack seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Six for as long as he can get away with.
Six looking to hit a scissor sweep but Sack is one step ahead there.

Sack stays in close to Six's body and controls the position.
Sack knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Six on the ground.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of John Sack.
Six fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Sack avoids it really well and circles away.
Six throws a low kick but Sack avoids it.

Sack shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Sack showed some decent athleticism there.

Sack is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Six is just riding it out for now. Sack eventually gives up the hold.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Sack thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Sack tries a head kick but it misses.
Six fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Six is defended easily by Sack.
Sack displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Six.
John Sack has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Choel Six.

Sack manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Six on his heels. He'll look to pass Six's guard now, I'm sure.
Six is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Sack postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

Six is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Sack defends well.

Six misses with a takedown attempt - Sack sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Six tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Sack paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Six tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Sack swivels and escapes.
Six is breathing heavily.
Six darts in looking for a takedown but Sack gets double underhooks and turns Six into the cage.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Six has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Sack is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Sack breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Sack shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Sack content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Sack is nestled in close to Six, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Sack looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Six with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Six is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Sack pulls his head out easily.

Sack gets to his feet - back to striking we go!

Sack gets a double leg takedown into Six's guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Six wants to stand and escape but Sack is having none of it.
Sack lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Sack stands up over Six, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Sack scoring with some ground and pound.
Sack sitting in guard, not really doing much.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!


Sack will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
A head kick misses from Sack.
Six is looking to clinch but Sack is avoiding it.

Sack moves into the clinch successfully.

Sack has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Six uses from the top position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Six sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Sack's guard.

Six wants to stand but Sack has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.
Sack holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Six wants to control but Sack is keeping him busy.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Choel Six.
Sack moves out of range as Six throws a body kick.
Sack tries for a takedown but Six sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Six fails with the takedown.
Sack swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Six counters with a left to the body.
John Sack is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Six tries to close the distance and clinch but Sack swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Sack slaps away a takedown attempt from Six, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Sack gets the takedown into side control.
Sack throwing strikes but Six manages to buck up and roll into a nice reversal - now he's on top in side control!
Sack is looking for a sweep.
Six trying to control the action but Sack is working from the bottom.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Six tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Six is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.
Six wants to take a breather but Sack manages to regain guard - a lesson learnt for Six.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Six trying to control but Sack is working from the bottom.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Choel Six wasn't active enough on the ground.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Sack is defended easily by Six.
Six pulls out of a head kick attempt.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to John Sack.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Sack, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
