Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 9 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Cleveland Cox! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Alex Peligrino! The judges for this bout are Valeri Chadov, Sergei Dronov and Aleksandr Martynov.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Cox throws a right hand that Peligrino ducks under and follows up with a left that Peligrino also avoids with ease. Cox tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Peligrino defends well and Cox ends up having to push Peligrino into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch. Peligrino is trying to break free. Peligrino is trying to push Cox away but Cox has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere. Cox goes for a takedown in the clinch but Peligrino prevents it.
Cox tries to land knees in the clinch but Peligrino avoids the damage to the body. Peligrino tries to circle away but Cox has him pinned against the cage. Peligrino wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Cox has him pressed against the cage. Peligrino breaks the clinch.
Peligrino fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Peligrino looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Cox! It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup. Peligrino scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Cox to see if he's OK. Peligrino working the body and head with strikes.
That's one minute gone in the round. Peligrino connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Cox some visible discomfort.
Cox takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Peligrino cracks Cox with a big elbow. Peligrino is working Cox over with some ground and pound from side control. Cox taking a bit of punishment here - Peligrino scoring with strikes. Peligrino has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Peligrino working the ground and pound.
Cox is rocked! The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. This has been an exciting period of action! Peligrino lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Cox down.
Oh Cox is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!! Peligrino in side control here. He's dropped a big elbow there and Cox looks hurt! Oh, he is hurt! Peligrino turns on the heat and pounds him out for a TKO victory! Good killer instinct there!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:47 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Alex Peligrino!
