Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
9 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Randy Jones! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Richard Perez! The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Don Winkell and Jack Bonds.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Left hook, right uppercut from Perez. Perez connects with a single shot there. Jones ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Perez moves away. Jones tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Perez throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Jones. Perez throws a body punch but Jones moves out of range. Perez has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Jones is landing a low percentage of strikes. Perez blocks a low kick nicely. Donk. Jones catches Perez right on the button with a cross. A shot to the liver by Perez. Beautiful body shot. Perez throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Jones misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Perez.
Perez fails to land with a series of punches.
Jones shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard. Jones looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

That's one minute gone in the round. Perez gets back to full guard.
Jones trying to control the position from guard on top but Perez is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Jones trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Jones thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. Perez is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Jones got a little sloppy there for a moment and Perez has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Jones has managed to get both his arms back between Perez's legs - danger averted.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Jones wants to pass the guard but Perez is keeping the position. Jones has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Perez throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Jones is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Perez has his feet on Jones's thighs here. He's pushed Jones off and worked for a very quick armbar from the bottom! He's flipped onto his stomach and he's cranking hard on the arm! Jones screams in pain and taps out! This one is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:50 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Richard Perez! In his post fight interview, Richard Perez started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
