Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jason Murcell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Michael Akins (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Michael Akins is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 1, fighting out of Hilo, Jason Murcell!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Michael Akins!
The judges for this bout are Jeff Smith, Josh West and Chris Saunders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Murcell takes a head kick and keeps coming.


It looks like Jason Murcell has been cut.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Murcell, right into the meat.

Akins darts in and clinches Murcell up against the cage.
Akins looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Murcell is trying to stall.
Good body shot from Murcell.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
A right hook to the body lands for Murcell.
Akins looks winded!
Murcell stalls.

Murcell breaks the clinch.
Murcell connects with the punch.
Murcell tries to bum rush Akins with a series of wild strikes but Akins uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Murcell is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Akins's half guard.
Murcell definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Akins moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Murcell wants to lay and pray for a moment but Akins keeps working.

Akins looking for submissions off his back.
Akins felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
Murcell wants to control but Akins is keeping him busy.

Well, if Murcell is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Murcell wants to pass the guard but Akins is defending well.
Murcell is trying to control. Akins wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Murcell is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

Jason Murcell has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.

Akins doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Akins throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
enabling Murcell to counter with a crisp jab.
Akins takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Murcell throws a body kick that sends a sickening thudding noise reverberating around the arena.
Murcell digs a good body shot into Akins's ribs.
Murcell keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Akins closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Murcell to the mat! Murcell manages to get full guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Akins wants to control from the top but Murcell keeps moving.
Murcell pulls Akins in close to prevent any damage.
Akins should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

Akins stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Murcell swivels though and keeps the full guard.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Murcell is on top in guard.
Murcell tries to free his leg and advance position but Akins is retaining full guard.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Akins is trying to keep Murcell in close.
Murcell has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Akins shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Murcell cracks Akins with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
Murcell scores with a jab to the jaw.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
Murcell shoots in looking for a takedown but Akins manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Murcell's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
A nice leg kick lands there from Murcell.
Murcell shoots for a double leg takedown but Akins sprawls well. He's pushed Murcell's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Murcell avoids the head kick by Akins.
Murcell throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.

A thudding body kick lands there by Murcell!
Murcell looks to score with a jab to the body but Akins is just out of range.
Murcell shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Akins eats them both and turns towards Murcell to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.
The fight stays on the outside here - Akins looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Akins rushes Murcell and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Akins manages to break the clinch.
Akins misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Akins fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Akins walks into a straight right hand from Murcell.
Akins shoots in but Murcell avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Murcell lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
Akins misses with a wild combination.
Michael Akins is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Murcell swats away the attempt to clinch by Akins.
Murcell scores with a hook to the body. Akins takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Akins fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
The fight stays on the outside here - Akins looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Murcell ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Michael Akins seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Murcell dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Akins. That did some damage!

Murcell closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Murcell's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
A jab lands there for Murcell.
Murcell tries to clinch up.
Murcell throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Akins on the side of the head.
The fight stays on the outside here - Akins looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Murcell stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Murcell misses with a body kick.
Murcell slips under a jab.
Murcell swats away the attempt to clinch by Akins.
Akins fails to land the takedown.
Jason Murcell has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Michael Akins.
Murcell lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Akins circles away quickly and effectively.
Akins changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Murcell tries to avoid it but Akins manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Murcell to the ground. Murcell escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Murcell comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Murcell throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.

Akins has managed to clinch.
Akins tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Murcell prevents the takedown attempt.
Murcell scores with a hook to the body.
Murcell doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Murcell gets an overhook and lands an elbow to the side of the head.
Akins throws a punch but it's blocked by Murcell.
Akins has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Murcell after a bit of a struggle.

Murcell pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Akins crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Murcell - the referee stops the clock and Akins gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Murcell. Akins manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.
Akins walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Murcell fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Akins looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Akins thuds a left hand into Murcell's body.

Murcell connects with the punch.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Murcell slips a straight right by Akins.
Murcell throws a quick inside leg kick.
Murcell just misses with a punch to the body.
Murcell throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Jason Murcell is winning the standup battle so far.

Akins throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Murcell was covering up waiting for the punch and Akins finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Akins wants to pass the guard but Murcell is keeping the position.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Murcell looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!



Murcell gets tackled into the cage by Akins. Akins maintains the clinch.
Akins fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Akins has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Murcell is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Murcell makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut.
Murcell content to slow the pace in the clinch.

Murcell breaks from the clinch.
A looping hook to the body misses from Murcell. Akins does a little dance to reset his feet.
Murcell lands a nice shot that snaps Akins's head back.
Akins has a takedown stuffed.
Jason Murcell has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Michael Akins.
Murcell lands a jab-cross combination.
Akins shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Murcell counters with a lovely straight right hand!
This has been an exciting period of action!

Akins drops down looking for an ankle pick but Murcell pulls his leg out and moves away.

Akins fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Murcell to the ground. Akins is now in Murcell's guard.
Akins loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Murcell utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Akins trying to control the position from guard on top but Murcell is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Akins slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Murcell wants to get back to his feet but Akins drags him back down.

Murcell prevents Akins from moving into mount.
Akins working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter.
Murcell wants to get back to his feet.

Jason Murcell is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Akins tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Akins throws a strike aimed at the side of Murcell's head but Murcell avoids it well.
Michael Akins has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
The ground and pound from Akins seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.

I would just about give that final round to Michael Akins.
I think Murcell has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
