Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Byron Skiddles!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, James Smith!
The judges for this bout are Chris Saunders, Colin Fray and Paul Gruel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Skiddles connects with a right hand. Smith shakes it off.
Smith has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Smith there as he acknowledges the shot.
Skiddles catches Smith with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
Smith looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Skiddles throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Skiddles uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
Skiddles changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
Skiddles cracks Smith with an open hand slap.
Skiddles scores with a crisp jab that stopped Smith in his tracks.
Byron Skiddles seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
A jab lands there for Skiddles.
Nice uppercut there from Skiddles.
Good exchange - Skiddles coming out on top.
Smith tries to score a power double leg takedown but Skiddles sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Smith somewhat.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Skiddles moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
Skiddles connects with a looping right hand.
Skiddles swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Smith.

Smith closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Skiddles quickly recovers to half guard.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

Smith is looking for a kimura but Skiddles is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Smith to get the leverage.
Skiddles definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Skiddles wants to control but Smith is keeping busy.

Smith maintaining the dominant position here and is working for a kimura. He's locked it up! Skiddles could be in real trouble here! He's trying to wriggle out but Smith has cracked it and Skiddles is screaming in pain - he's tapped out! Great finish by Smith!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:56 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). James Smith!
James Smith is the new lightweight champion!
A relieved looking James Smith thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
