Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Erin Cameron! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Clay Moreton! The judges for this bout are Phil Schofield, Daniel Bishop and Colin Fotheringham.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Cameron changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Moreton looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon. Moreton avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Cameron. Cameron wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Moreton, who protects the arm well. Cameron is staying tight to Moreton's torso, preventing him from escaping. Cameron tries for a kimura but Moreton is defending well. Cameron throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.
That's one minute gone in the round. Moreton trying to remain calm as Cameron controls from the top position. Cameron stands up. Moreton tries to clinch but fails miserably and Cameron counters into the clinch. Nicely done. Cameron jumps guard and drags Moreton to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back. Moreton really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Cameron. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Cameron controlling the position. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Moreton trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Moreton wants to control from the top but Cameron keeps moving. The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Moreton tries to close the distance and clinch up but Cameron swats him away and circles back towards the center. Cameron looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Moreton is fending him off so far but Cameron persists. Nope, Moreton circles away and we're back to standing. Moreton's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Moreton duly obliges. Cameron stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Moreton. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Moreton throws a head kick that misses. Moreton dives in and grabs Cameron's left leg, looking for a takedown. Cameron pushes down on Moreton's head and hops out. Cameron takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh. Moreton motions for Cameron to come forward. Moreton throws a leg kick but it misses it's target. Sloppy strikes from Moreton. Those never looked like landing. Moreton fails with an attempt to clinch.
Cameron chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Moreton can pounce on him.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Moreton moves in looking to clinch but Cameron pushes him off. Moreton is looking to clinch. Clay Moreton seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Moreton tries to clinch and Cameron counters with a series of strikes. Moreton will be more careful next time no doubt. Moreton tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Moreton tries to clinch up. Moreton fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Cameron avoids it really well and circles away. Cameron rushes Moreton and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch. Cameron is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Moreton pulls him back up using the underhooks. Moreton is pressed up against the cage. Cameron has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Moreton down to the mat. Moreton avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Erin Cameron. That's going to take a lot out of him. Moreton swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Moreton lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Cameron fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Moreton is looking to clinch. Horrible takedown by Moreton or perhaps it was just good defense by Cameron which made him look bad. Moreton looks for a takedown but Cameron sprawls well. Moreton looks winded! Cameron uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Moreton.
Moreton stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Moreton wants it to stay on the feet. Moreton gets a clinch. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Both fighters working to control the clinch. Cameron stalling.
Cameron avoids a wild elbow strike from Moreton. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Erin Cameron will probably get the nod. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
Moreton gets caught flat footed, as Cameron shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. Cameron passes Moreton's left leg - he's now in half guard. Moreton is looking to escape. Cameron seems to be looking for submissions.
Cameron thows a huge punch but Moreton dodges it nicely.
Cameron with a momentary lay and pray from half guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Cameron decides to stand and escape the position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Moreton misses with a takedown attempt and Cameron counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. Cameron passes into half guard. Moreton is breathing heavily. Well, if Cameron is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Cameron's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Moreton is trying to escape back to his feet but Cameron uses the scramble to pass into side control.
Moreton wants to get back to his feet. Moreton on the wrong end of some ground and pound. This has been an exciting period of action! Cameron stands up and beckons Moreton to his feet.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Some wild striking there from Moreton.
Cameron scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. Cameron wants to stand but Moreton is controlling his arm. Moreton is letting Cameron control him for a moment. Cameron decides to take the fight back to the feet.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Moreton closes the distance but Cameron moves to the side and Cameron counters by clinching up. Moreton is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage. Cameron decides to pull guard. Erin Cameron overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Moreton trying to control the position from guard on top but Cameron is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Cameron seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Moreton trying to stand up but can't free himself from Cameron's guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Erin Cameron dominated that second round. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! And we move into the final round!
Cameron is trying hard to land a takedown here. Moreton sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. Sloppy strikes from Moreton. Those never looked like landing. Moreton fails to land the takedown. Moreton shoots in for a double leg but Cameron sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Moreton tries to clinch and Cameron counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Cameron. Cameron is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. Moreton takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Cameron wants to stand but Moreton has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
That's one minute gone in the round. Cameron landing some decent shots from guard. Cameron pushing down on Moreton's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work. Cameron wants to stand up but Moreton has a hold of him and won't allow it.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Cameron stalling. Cameron will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Moreton avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Cameron. Cameron perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
We're going to have a standup here because Erin Cameron wasn't active enough for the referee's liking. Moreton fails with an attempt to clinch.
Moreton throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Erin Cameron is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Moreton gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Cameron counters by clinching up. Erin Cameron has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Clay Moreton.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Cameron tries to land knees in the clinch but Moreton avoids the damage to the body. Cameron keeps control of Moreton as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks. Cameron gets a trip takedown into half guard. Cameron has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount. Cameron content just to control the position here.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Cameron avoids the attempt from Moreton to control. Cameron looking to secure an arm triangle but Moreton defends it well. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Cameron sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
And that's the end of the fight! Erin Cameron showed his dominance in that final round. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Cameron, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
