Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jimmie Wilcox! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Raimo Mylly! The judges for this bout are Mauricio Rocha, Seu Braga and Paulo Santos.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Wilcox shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Mylly pinned against the cage. Mylly gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Wilcox darts in and clinches Mylly up against the cage. Wilcox gets underhooks to prevent Mylly's takedown attempt.
Mylly tries to land a knee to the head but Wilcox blocks with his arms.
Wilcox has Mylly pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Wilcox pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Mylly tumbling to the mat - Wilcox dives into Mylly's guard. Wilcox really is a fat lump. Wilcox pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Mylly is keeping the position for now. Wilcox might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Mylly keeping moving, preventing Wilcox from controlling successfully.
That's one minute gone in the round. Wilcox controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
The ref stands the fighters back up. Jimmie Wilcox wasn't doing enough on the ground. Wilcox clinches with his opponent.
Mylly drops down looking for an ankle pick but Wilcox pulls his leg out and moves away.
Wilcox shoots in for a double leg but Mylly sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Nice sprawl there from Mylly as Wilcox shoots in. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jimmie Wilcox. That's going to take a lot out of him.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Wilcox does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy. Mylly shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Mylly looks winded! Wilcox fails with a takedown attempt. Mylly shoots in but no luck this time. Wilcox fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Wilcox gets in close and instigates a clinch. Mylly breaks from the clinch.
Wilcox gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Mylly to score an easy takedown into full guard. This has been an exciting period of action! Wilcox is controlling Mylly's posture.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Mylly trying to control the position from guard on top but Wilcox is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Wilcox looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Wilcox has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall. Mylly wants to control from the top but Wilcox keeps moving. Wilcox knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Mylly on the ground.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Wilcox moves to clinch but Mylly breaks away and Mylly counters with a single leg into guard. Wilcox didn't expect that.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Wilcox utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Wilcox tries to land a sweep but no joy. The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Mylly trying to control the position from guard on top but Wilcox is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Wilcox is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Mylly is controlling him. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Wilcox is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Mylly trying to control but Wilcox is working from the bottom. We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon. Mylly engaging in some classic timewasting tactics. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Raimo Mylly wasn't active enough on the ground. Mylly goes for a spinning back kick but it misses. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Jimmie Wilcox will probably get the nod. That's time! Back to the action!
Wilcox fails to land the takedown. Mylly leaves Wilcox with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Nice sprawl there from Mylly as Wilcox shoots in. We've been informed that Mylly has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jimmie Wilcox. That's going to take a lot out of him. Horrible takedown by Wilcox or perhaps it was just good defense by Mylly which made him look bad. Mylly moves in looking to clinch but Wilcox pushes him off. Mylly changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Wilcox tries to avoid it but Mylly manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Wilcox to the ground. Wilcox escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Mylly has taken the fight to the clinch.
Wilcox drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Wilcox tries to pull guard but Mylly holds him up against the cage and eventually Wilcox drops back down to his feet.
That's one minute gone in the round. Wilcox has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Mylly after a bit of a struggle. Mylly pulls guard. Mylly has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Wilcox can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Wilcox works over Mylly with some ground and pound from guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Wilcox pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Mylly is keeping the position for now. Raimo Mylly has got the better of the ground game so far. Mylly throwing rabbit punches from the bottom - showing the judges that he's keeping busy. Mylly throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Wilcox has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Wilcox gets to his feet. Mylly looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
That's three minutes gone in the round. Mylly shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Wilcox is trying to defend but Mylly finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further. Wilcox is not content to let Mylly control the position. Wilcox manages to get to full guard.
Mylly is looking to pass into half guard but Wilcox pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Wilcox is in guard. Wilcox passes Mylly's left leg - he's now in half guard. Wilcox is looking for a kimura here.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Wilcox decides to stand up. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Wilcox shoots for a takedown but Mylly saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close second round but Raimo Mylly will probably get the nod - 10:9. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!
Wilcox tries to keep at a distance but Mylly has taken the fight into the clinch. Wilcox drags the fight down to the ground.
Mylly drops back looking for a leg! Wilcox is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Wilcox manages to kick Mylly off! Mylly jumps back into Wilcox's guard. Mylly working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Wilcox's head. Wilcox is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Wilcox looking for a sweep. Not yet Wilcox, not yet. Wilcox is adopting a defensive guard. Mylly takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Mylly wants to pass the guard but Wilcox is keeping the position.
That's one minute gone in the round. If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup. Mylly avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Mylly thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. Wilcox looking for subs off his back but Mylly has passed one foot through into half guard.
Mylly is trying to control the action in half guard but Wilcox is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Mylly is trying to work for a kimura but Wilcox is defending well.
Wilcox is looking for a sweep. Mylly is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Still in half guard, Mylly seems content to control. Mylly is stalling here. Wilcox is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Mylly seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Wilcox has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Wilcox thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Mylly is looking to regain half guard here but Wilcox keeps moving and retains side control.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Wilcox is looking to take a break and control but Mylly is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Wilcox in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Sloppy strikes there by Wilcox. Mylly avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Wilcox. Wilcox is looking to take a break and control but Mylly is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Jimmie Wilcox. I think Wilcox has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
