PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jerome Paints (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ab Soul (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Paints has a slight injury, which hopefully won't affect the fight too much. Ab Soul has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jerome Paints!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Ab Soul!
The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Gregory Folan and Ian Loll.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Paints moves out of range of the strikes.
Paints is breathing heavily.
That kick from Paints tenderised Soul's leg. Soul is trying to keep his angry face on.
Paints throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Soul shoots in but no luck this time.
Paints tries to bum rush Soul with a series of wild strikes but Soul uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Paints connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Soul swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Soul throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Paints is looking to score with low kicks.

Soul feints and as Paints raises his hands in defense, Soul changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Soul tries to free his leg and advance position but Paints is retaining full guard.
Soul is still trying to improve position.
Soul should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Soul throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Paints works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Soul looking to pass the guard.
Soul trying to control the position from guard on top but Paints is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Soul is stalling in the full guard.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Paints fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.
Soul shoots in for a takedown but Paints shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Paints displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Soul throws out the jab.
Soul thows a left - swing and a miss!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Paints misses with a body kick.
Soul will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Soul looks to score with a jab to the body but Paints is just out of range.
Soul loads up on a big right hand but Paints slips the punch.
Soul goes for a double leg but Paints avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Paints continues to drive forward.
Jerome Paints has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ab Soul.
Soul is looking to take this one to the mat.
Soul has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Paints is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Soul drops down looking for an ankle pick but Paints pulls his leg out and moves away.
Soul throws a series of punches but Paints moves out of range.
Soul is trying hard to land a takedown here. Paints sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Soul avoids a punch combination nicely.
Soul tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Paints swivels and escapes.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ab Soul dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Jerome Paints's cut.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Soul shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Soul is looking to work some ground and pound but Paints has wrist control.
Soul advances position into side control!
Soul grinds an elbow into Paints's temple.

Soul is working to tighten his grip on Paints's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Paints has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Soul is really squeezing tight and eventually Paints passes out! Soul breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:45 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). Ab Soul!
After winning the bout, Ab Soul thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
