PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Wayne Conway (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Devin Miles (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Wayne Conway!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Devin Miles!
The judges for this bout are , Don Winkell and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Miles misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Miles looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Nice sprawl there from Miles as Conway shoots in.
Miles misses with a few strikes there.
Miles leaves Conway with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Miles throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Conway's waist but Conway gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Miles off to one side.
Conway pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Conway drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Conway might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Conway passes Miles's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Conway could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Conway's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Conway seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Miles for as long as he can get away with.
Miles felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.

Conway stands up and beckons Miles to join him on the feet.

Conway darts in looking for a takedown but Miles gets double underhooks and turns Conway into the cage.

Conway looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Conway is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Miles defends well.

Conway is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

Conway manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Conway cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Conway throwing strikes here but Miles is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Conway throws a leg kick but Miles checks it.
Conway fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Miles wants to clinch.
Miles blocks a head kick by Conway.

Conway forces Miles back against the cage and clinches.
Conway is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Miles pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Conway has had enough of the clinch but Miles keeps him there for the moment.
Conway content to slow the pace in the clinch.

Conway pulls guard successfully.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Conway controlling the position.
Conway manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Conway looking to control and managing it successfully.
Conway throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Miles because Conway loaded up on that one.

Miles is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.

Conway unloads with some shots from mount but Miles bucks and avoids them well.

Miles really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Conway. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Conway prevents Miles from getting the reversal.
Conway misses with a head shot.

Conway is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Miles is surviving well by controlling Conway's body position as best he can.
Miles tries to buck Conway off but he can't manage it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!



Conway has Miles up against the cage in a clinch.

Conway has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Miles uses from the top position.
Conway manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Miles manages to get himself to full guard.
Miles wants to control but Conway passes easily into half guard.
Conway works his way into side control.
Conway tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.
Miles takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Conway takes a little break here. Miles wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.

Conway stands up.
Conway closes the distance and clinches up with Miles, looking for a takedown. Conway pushes Miles against the cage but Miles circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Conway here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man.
No luck for Conway with that takedown attempt.
Miles avoids a low kick by using good footwork.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Miles on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
Conway looks to land a combination. Miles sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.

Conway closes the distance and pushes Miles back into the cage.
Conway is looking to break free of the clinch but Miles has double underhooks.
Conway is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
The pace really dropping off here, momentarily.
Conway tries to break the clinch but Miles is controlling the position.

Conway drags the fight down to the ground.

Conway has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. Miles is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position.

Conway's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Miles shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Conway as he jumps to the side.
Miles looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Conway is fending him off so far but Miles persists. Nope, Conway circles away and we're back to standing.
Conway misses with a head kick.
Conway shoots for a takedown but Miles saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Wayne Conway. That's going to take a lot out of him.

and Conway counters by clinching up.
Conway wants a takedown but no success here.

Miles tries to pull guard but Conway holds him up against the cage and eventually Miles drops back down to his feet.
Conway is trying to drag Miles to the mat but Miles just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Miles fails to pull the fight into his guard.

Conway wants to break the clinch but can't.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
A frustrated look appears on Conway's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Devin Miles has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Wayne Conway is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Conway is trying to break the clinch but Miles has him pressed against the cage.

And that's the end of the fight!
Wayne Conway showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Conway has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
