PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Rob Dylan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dion Phaneuf (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Rob Dylan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Dion Phaneuf!
The judges for this bout are Elvis Blanc, Ian Loll and Gregory Folan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A jab from Phaneuf misses.
Phaneuf scores with a nice right hand.
Phaneuf swinging wilding here.
Phaneuf throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

Dylan shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Dylan perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Dylan is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Phaneuf!
Phaneuf has worked his way to half guard, taking advantage of Dylan's lack of action.
Dylan is keen to just control but Phaneuf is a slippery customer.

Dylan is stalling here. Phaneuf is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Dylan seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Phaneuf has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.
Dylan wants to control but Phaneuf postures up.
Dylan is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Phaneuf is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Dylan manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Dylan seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Phaneuf wants to get back to his feet but Dylan is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Phaneuf is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Dylan is controlling him.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Dylan wants to control from the top but Phaneuf keeps moving.

Dylan closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Dylan looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Phaneuf is fending him off so far but Dylan persists. Nope, Phaneuf circles away and we're back to standing.
Phaneuf misses with a few strikes there.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Dylan closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Dylan has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Dylan advances to full mount.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Dylan takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Phaneuf is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.
Dylan takes Phaneuf's back. Could be looking for a rear naked choke here - either way, Phaneuf is in trouble.
Dylan controlling the position well here. Phaneuf rolled but Dylan kept the hooks locked in and stayed in the dominant position.

Dylan fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

Dylan bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Phaneuf takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

Rob Dylan overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Dylan tries for a kimura but Phaneuf is defending well.

Dylan shoots for a double leg takedown but Phaneuf sprawls well. He's pushed Dylan's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Phaneuf throws a sloppy head kick and Dylan moves out of range easily.

Dylan closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Dylan lands in his opponent's guard.

Dion Phaneuf has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Well, if Dylan is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Dylan, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
