And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, John Banks!
The judges for this bout are Chris Saunders, Ryoma Takatsuka and Jeff Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Banks looking to score a takedown here. Wilkerson is defending well but Banks drives through and ends up in Wilkerson's guard.
Banks is looking to stand up but Wilkerson won't let him.
Banks slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Banks pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Wilkerson is keeping the position for now.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by John Banks.
Banks fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Banks fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Wilkerson avoids it really well and circles away.
Wilkerson avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Wilkerson stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Wilkerson wants it to stay on the feet.
Abel Wilkerson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of John Banks.

Banks is looking to clinch but Wilkerson is avoiding it.
Banks tries to score a power double leg takedown but Wilkerson sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Banks somewhat.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by John Banks.
Banks gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Wilkerson counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Banks has control of Wilkerson's left arm, preventing Wilkerson from doing any damage.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Banks.
Banks dives in for a single leg takedown but Wilkerson sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

Wilkerson gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Banks pulls Wilkerson in close to his closed guard and prevents Wilkerson from doing any damage or advancing position.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Banks fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

John Banks dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Banks shoots in looking for a takedown. Wilkerson tries to sprawl out of it but Banks keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Wilkerson manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Banks closes this distance looking for a takedown but Wilkerson circles away.
Banks shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Wilkerson as he jumps to the side.
Abel Wilkerson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of John Banks.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Banks throwing strikes but Wilkerson manages to buck up and roll into a nice reversal - now he's on top in side control!
Banks is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

Wilkerson wants to stand up but Banks has a hold of him and won't allow it.

Wilkerson wants to get up but he can't break Banks's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Abel Wilkerson.

Banks closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Banks lands in his opponent's guard.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Banks wants to stand but Wilkerson has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Banks controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Wilkerson is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Banks is controlling him.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

The ref stands the fighters back up. John Banks was stalling too much, according to the referee.

Banks is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Wilkerson's half guard.
John Banks has got the better of the ground game so far.
Banks wants to advance to full mount but Wilkerson doesn't think that's going to happen and regains full guard instead.
Banks tries to stand but Wilkerson is controlling from the bottom.
Banks not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

John Banks showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Wilkerson's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!



Banks has taken the fight to the clinch.

Wilkerson has hold of one of Banks's legs. Banks is fighting the takedown attempt but Wilkerson gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Banks can do anything to dispel that myth.

Banks thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Wilkerson's head.

Banks is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Banks wants to lay and pray for a moment but Wilkerson keeps working.

Banks is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Wilkerson has managed to free his arm - good work.
Banks lands with a punch from half guard.

Banks is looking for submissions but instead, Wilkerson has regained full guard.
Banks stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Wilkerson swivels though and keeps the full guard.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Banks closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Banks throwing shots but Wilkerson is blocking nicely.
Banks with the ground and pound but Wilkerson uses the opportunity to regain guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Banks accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Abel Wilkerson has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
John Banks is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Banks works over Wilkerson with some ground and pound from guard.

John Banks comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Banks has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

A very excited looking John Banks rambled incoherently for about 5 minutes post fight about how awesome he is. It was kinda funny for a while but then everyone got annoyed.
