Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Nicky Sampson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Anthony Pettis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Pettis is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Alab ng Puso-Abra. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Anthony Pettis!
The judges for this bout are Roger Salmon, Colin Fray and Josh West.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sampson shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Pettis eats them both and turns towards Sampson to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.
Pettis looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Sampson shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Pettis counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.

Sampson manages to create a bit of space in order to work his way back to his feet. Pettis keeps hold of his opponent and drives him back against the cage.
Sampson stops a takedown attempt from Pettis.
Sampson fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Sampson wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Pettis has him pressed against the cage.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Sampson manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Sampson darts in looking for a takedown but Pettis gets double underhooks and turns Sampson into the cage.

Sampson has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Pettis is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Pettis changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Sampson fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Nice takedown defense from Pettis. No joy for Sampson on that attempt.
Pettis just misses with a punch to the body.
Sampson throws a head kick but Pettis moves out of range.
Sampson shoots in but no luck this time.

Sampson gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Pettis to score an easy takedown into full guard.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Sampson dives in for a single leg takedown but Pettis sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

Pettis escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Sampson shoots for a double leg takedown but Pettis sprawls well. He's pushed Sampson's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Sampson throws a strike but Pettis rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Pettis tries to free his leg and advance position but Sampson is retaining full guard.

Sampson wants to sweep but no luck.

Sampson is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Pettis is aware though and is defending well.

Pettis decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Pettis closes this distance looking for a takedown but Sampson circles away.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Sampson.

Pettis drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Sampson keeping moving, preventing Pettis from controlling successfully.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Sampson has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Pettis can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Sampson moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.

Pettis closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Sampson to the mat! Sampson manages to get full guard.
Pettis not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Sampson is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Sampson tries to stand but his arm is trapped.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Anthony Pettis showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Sampson's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!

A frustrated look appears on Sampson's face as he tries to break the clinch.

Sampson manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Pettis seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Pettis prevents Sampson from getting back to his feet.

It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Sampson utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Sampson not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Anthony Pettis hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

and Pettis counters with a nice double leg into side control. Sampson won't be happy with that.
Sampson stops Pettis from passing to mount.
Pettis fails to land a wild elbow strike.
Pettis wants to control but Sampson is keeping him busy.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Pettis tries to move into full mount but can't pass Sampson's legs.

Pettis is looking to take a break and control but Sampson is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Sampson is looking for a sweep.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Anthony Pettis.
Sampson avoids the head kick by Pettis.
Sampson feints a jab promting Pettis to slip. Sampson then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Pettis slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.

Sampson throws a head kick but Pettis moves out of range.
Pettis changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Sampson tries to avoid it but Pettis manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Sampson to the ground. Sampson escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Pettis throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Sampson closes the distance and lands a one-two.
Sampson fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Pettis shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Sampson but Sampson pushes him off and we're back to square one.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Pettis is defended easily by Sampson.

And that's the end of the fight!
Anthony Pettis comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Pettis has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
