Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 17 - 11 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Layne Fields!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 16 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Orion Cook!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Don Winkell and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Fields is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Fields pushes Cook up against the cage in a clinch.
Cook tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Fields just stands there and leans against the cage.
Fields trying to land knees to the body.

Fields breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Fields lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt.

Fields has managed to clinch.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Cook has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
Fields fails to land with a short punch on the inside.

Cook drags the fight down to the ground.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Fields wants to control from the top but Cook keeps moving.
Fields is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Cook trying to keep a closed guard but Fields is proving a slippery customer.

Fields trying to control the action but Cook is working from the bottom.
Cook tries to get to full guard but Fields has control of the leg.
Cook is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Fields's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Fields's back!
Cook is looking to finish with some ground and pound!
Cook is trying to stick to Fields's back but Fields is turning into Cook. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Cook's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Fields.

Cook utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Fields is pressed up against the cage. Cook has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Fields down to the mat. Fields avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Cook moves out of range as Fields throws a body kick.
Fields throws a looping overhand right but Cook ducks down to avoid it.

Fields has Cook up against the cage in a clinch.
Fields throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Cook blocks it with crossed arms.

Cook pulls Fields into guard.
Fields loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Cook is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Fields is in close to Cook's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Cook is trying to keep Fields in close.
Fields in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

Fields wants to stand but Cook has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Fields accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Cook tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Cook looking to control.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Fields stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Cook swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Fields is working hard here to advance position.

Fields scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Fields lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Fields connects with a couple of short punches.

Fields won't allow Cook to sweep him here.
Fields trying to control the position from guard on top but Cook is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Fields is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Cook is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Fields stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Cook swivels though and keeps the full guard.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!


Fields tries to clinch there but Cook circles away.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Cook.
Fields uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Cook has time to react.

Cook uses his free foot to push down on Fields's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Fields.
Cook breaks from Fields's wrist control and lands an elbow.

Fields is looking to improve his position but Cook isn't that keen on the idea.
Cook fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Fields is trying to get back to his feet but can't.
The referee warns Fields that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.

It looks like Layne Fields has been cut.

Fields sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.

The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Cook lands a nice short elbow.

Orion Cook comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
