Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Kieth Grimes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Maurice Tristan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Kieth Grimes! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Maurice Tristan! The judges for this bout are Russell Pearce, David Schapiro and Chad Campbell.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Tristan shoots in looking for a takedown but Grimes manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Tristan's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. Tristan misses with a takedown attempt - Grimes sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Tristan throws a lazy head kick and Grimes counters with a nice double leg into half guard. The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up. Tristan trying to hold on to Grimes's head to control him but Grimes postures up.
Grimes decides to stand and escape the position. Tristan shoots in looking for a takedown. Grimes tries to sprawl out of it but Tristan keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Grimes manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Kieth Grimes has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Maurice Tristan. Tristan forces Grimes back against the cage and clinches.
That's one minute gone in the round. Tristan pulls guard successfully.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Tristan is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Tristan working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Grimes doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Grimes manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Grimes postures up.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Tristan has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall. We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Maurice Tristan wasn't active enough on the ground. An inside leg kick from Tristan misses. Tristan closes this distance looking for a takedown but Grimes circles away. Tristan throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Grimes's waist but Grimes gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Tristan off to one side. Tristan tries for a takedown but Grimes circles away easily and Grimes decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Tristan's guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Grimes tries to stand but Tristan is controlling from the bottom. Grimes really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Tristan wants to sweep here but Grimes controlling him for the moment.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Kieth Grimes just wasn't active enough. Tristan dives in and grabs Grimes's left leg, looking for a takedown. Grimes pushes down on Tristan's head and hops out. Grimes defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Tristan. Tristan throws a wild combination but nothing lands. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Tristan tries for a takedown but Grimes circles away easily and Grimes counters with a takedown into side control. Tristan looks winded! Grimes stands up and we're back to a striking position. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's one minute gone in the round. Tristan tries to close the distance and clinch up but Grimes swats him away and circles back towards the center. A head kick misses from Tristan. Tristan tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Grimes defends well and Tristan ends up having to push Grimes into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch. Grimes is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Tristan gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt. Tristan is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath. Grimes drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Tristan gets the underhooks and prevents it.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Tristan tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Grimes smiles and moves away.
A combination from Tristan does no damage. Tristan wants to clinch but Grimes slips to the side and Grimes counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Grimes.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Tristan looking for a sweep. Not yet Tristan, not yet. Grimes got a little sloppy there for a moment and Tristan has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Grimes has managed to get both his arms back between Tristan's legs - danger averted. Grimes tries to stand but Tristan is controlling from the bottom. Tristan has control of Grimes's left arm, preventing Grimes from doing any damage.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Kieth Grimes. Tristan tries to clinch but Grimes is having none of it. Tristan changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Grimes tries to avoid it but Tristan manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Grimes to the ground. Grimes escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Tristan fails to land the takedown. Tristan gets off balance looking for a body kick and Grimes counters with a nice double leg into side control. Tristan won't be happy with that. Tristan struggling a bit here. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Grimes stands up. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A chopping leg kick lands by Tristan. Tristan doesn't succeed with the takedown and Grimes counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Tristan's guard now. Tristan takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Tristan pulls Grimes in close to his closed guard and prevents Grimes from doing any damage or advancing position. Grimes decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Tristan, up you get!

Tristan is trying to pull guard but Grimes has him pressed against the cage. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Grimes has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Tristan after a bit of a struggle. Tristan successfully pulls guard.

Tristan with the active half guard here but Grimes passes nicely into side control. Tristan tries to buck Grimes off but Grimes is having none of it. Grimes will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Tristan throws his opponent off and manages to get back to his feet! Nicely done! Nice defenses there by Grimes. Tristan throws an overhand right that lands on Grimes's shoulder, as Grimes tries to avoid the shot. Tristan darts in looking for a takedown but Grimes gets double underhooks and turns Tristan into the cage. Kieth Grimes has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Maurice Tristan. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Tristan is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Grimes is keeping busy. Maurice Tristan has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Kieth Grimes is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Grimes goes for a takedown in the clinch but Tristan prevents it.
And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Kieth Grimes. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Grimes, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent.
