Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
20 - 7 - 0, fighting out of New York, Pete Ruent! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
18 - 11 - 0, fighting out of New York, Mike Hunt! The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, and Don Winkell.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Ruent scores with a head kick. Hunt tried to block it but didn't get his arm up in time. Ruent misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Hunt.
Ruent throws a hook but Hunt blocks it. The fighters circling - Hunt throws out the jab but it was never going to land. Ruent fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Hunt manages to avoid it. Ruent smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Ruent. Ruent throws a leg kick that misses. Ruent throws a front kick aimed at Hunt's knee but Hunt avoids it well. Hunt's coach down at Alpha Elite Training Low Cap! was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Hunt's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.
That's one minute gone in the round. Ruent scores with a slapping inside leg kick. Ruent misses with a straight right. Hunt lands a nice looking body shot.

Ruent shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it. A clash of legs there as Ruent blocks the low kick. Hunt shoots in for a takedown but Ruent shows good takedown defense. Ruent bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes. Hunt closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. Ruent tries to get back to half guard but can't.
That's one minute gone in the round. Hunt working away. Hunt advances nicely into full mount. Hunt is landing with some decent strikes but Ruent is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue. Hunt has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Ruent's face.
Ruent is desperately trying to improve his position but Hunt has a good base and remains in mount. Hunt lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning. Hunt trying to control but he's not successful this time. Ruent is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. Ruent takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position. Hunt has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Ruent is trying desperately to improve position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Ruent is squirming around, avoiding Hunt's attempts to control the action. Hunt landing strikes from the mount. Hunt has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Ruent's face.
Ruent tries to lock up and control but Hunt gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. Hunt looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.
Ruent tries to get back to half guard but can't. Hunt wants to control the pace but Ruent is squirming around nicely. Hunt might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Ruent haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time. That's three minutes gone in the round. Ruent is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. Hunt postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Ruent looks a forlorn figure.
Ruent is rocked! Hunt fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Oh Ruent is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!! Hunt drops a big elbow. That's hurt Ruent! More shots from Hunt and the ref steps in! The fight is over!
