Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Kennith Griffith! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Edas Peda! The judges for this bout are Sosuke Kotani, Yuuki Gou and Ren Mimura.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Griffith shoots in and gets a takedown into Peda's guard. Peda trying to control the position.
Griffith wants to stand but Peda has a closed guard, so he can't escape. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Griffith seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up. Peda not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Peda wants to sweep here but Griffith controlling him for the moment.
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Griffith gets the takedown into side control. Griffith working away. Peda holds on tight, trying to prevent any damage.
That's one minute gone in the round. Griffith controlling the position. Peda is trying to improve his position. Griffith slows the pace down. Griffith looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. Peda wants to control but Griffith postures up.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Peda is trying to get back to half guard. Griffith controls the position. Griffith tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily. Peda takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Peda tries to escape but Griffith is in control. Griffith lands a decent elbow from side control. Griffith is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Peda is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Griffith tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.
That's three minutes gone in the round. The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Peda is trying to work for a sweep but Griffith has mounted him! Griffith will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Peda wants to control but Griffith is having none of it. Peda really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Griffith. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Peda looks winded! Griffith is giving the impression that he's looking to ground and pound but he switches suddenly into a beautiful far side armbar! Peda is forced to tap! Great finish!
