PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Hattori Hanzo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bartlomiej Bartnicki (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Bartlomiej Bartnicki told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Hanzo scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Hanzo tries to advance to mount but Bartnicki denies him.
Hanzo tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.
Bartnicki is trying to control Hanzo's posture but Hanzo avoids it.
Bartnicki wants to get back to his feet.
Bartnicki is looking for a sweep.
Bartnicki is not content to let Hanzo control the position.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Bartnicki can do anything to dispel that myth.
Hanzo tries to pass the half guard into mount. Bartnicki knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Bartnicki gets back to full guard.
Hanzo could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Bartnicki is trying to keep Hanzo in close.
Hanzo is looking to stand up but Bartnicki won't let him.

Bartnicki has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Hanzo can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Bartnicki has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Hanzo is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Bartnicki.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Hanzo has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Bartnicki is trying to escape the mount.
Bartnicki sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.
Hanzo tries to pass to full mount but Bartnicki defends it.

Hanzo is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Hanzo wants to control from the top but Bartnicki keeps moving.
Hanzo is really struggling to control Bartnicki but he's trying to hold on to the position.
Bartnicki has a closed guard, preventing Hanzo from standing up.
Hanzo is breathing heavily.

Bartnicki is looking for a triangle but Hanzo pushes his legs off easily.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Bartnicki has his foot on Hanzo's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Hanzo works his way back into a safe position though.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Bartnicki working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Hanzo doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Hanzo manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Hanzo tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Bartnicki defends well and Hanzo ends up having to push Bartnicki into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Bartnicki has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Hanzo avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Hanzo pulls Bartnicki into guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Bartnicki looking to sit in guard and control but Hanzo gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Bartnicki is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! Hanzo has his hands clasped together but Bartnicki extends and breaks Hanzo's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Bartnicki.
