Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Dustin Waller! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Rws Rws! The judges for this bout are Dean Styles, Jorge Garcia and John Roberts.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Rws digs a good hook to Waller's body.
Rws wants to clinch up but Waller keeps it at a distance. Rws scores with a head kick. Waller tried to block it but didn't get his arm up in time. Waller really is a fat lump. Nice takedown defense from Rws. No joy for Waller on that attempt. Waller slaps away a takedown attempt from Rws, before circling back to the center of the mat. Waller tries to close the distance and clinch but Rws swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Rws tries to clinch up. Waller drives through with a takedown into Rws's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position. Waller wants to stand but Rws has a closed guard, so he can't escape. Rws is trying to keep Waller in close.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Waller stopping the sweep attempt from Rws.
That's one minute gone in the round. Rws is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Waller is controlling him. Rws is trying to keep Waller in close.
Rws utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Waller wants to control from the top but Rws keeps moving.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Rws avoids a kick to the body.
Rws takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Rws has a takedown stuffed. Rws closes this distance looking for a takedown but Waller circles away. Dustin Waller has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Rws Rws.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Waller shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Rws but Rws pushes him off and we're back to square one. Excellent takedown into side control there by Waller. Waller wants to stand but Rws has his arm trapped. Rws is trying to improve his position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Rws is letting Waller control him for a moment. Rws can't do much from the bottom here.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Rws is not content to let Waller control the position. Waller postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Waller looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. A control attempt from Rws but he's now mounted!
That's four minutes gone in the round. Rws looking to escape from mount but he's given up his back! Waller has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Rws has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Waller is working hard for the rear naked choke here.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Waller biding his time, controlling Rws. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rws looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Waller throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Rws's waist but Rws gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Waller off to one side. Waller shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Rws is trying to defend but Waller finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further. Dustin Waller overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Rws wants to get back to full guard. Waller not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. Ground and pound from Waller. Rws is looking to improve his position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Rws is trying to stand.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Waller wants to take a breather but Rws is having none of it. Rws trying to get back to full guard but Waller takes advantage of the position and moves to full mount! Waller controlling the pace for now. Waller swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Rws is now in Waller's guard. A big mistake from Waller there, giving up the dominant position! Rws trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Waller trying to strike off his back.
Rws trying to stand up but can't free himself from Waller's guard. Waller preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Waller is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Waller pulls Rws in to control the position. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Rws accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Waller wants to sweep here but Rws controlling him for the moment. Waller is looking to stand back up but Rws counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Waller.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Rws not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. Rws is looking to take a break and control but Waller is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Waller manages to get to full guard.
Waller wants to sweep here but Rws controlling him for the moment. Rws throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Rws must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Waller lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Rws! Rws regains half guard. Waller not landing any meaningful shots this time. Waller slows the pace down in half guard. Waller in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Rws tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Waller!
