Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Leonide Leclair! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Nathan Lee! The judges for this bout are Valeri Chadov, Igor Prikhodko and Konstantin Menshow.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Leclair closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Lee's guard. We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon. Leclair keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Lee's head. Leclair has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Leclair trying to control the position from guard on top but Lee is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Leclair avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Leclair chips away with some ground and pound. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Lee working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Leclair. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Lee is on top in guard.
Leclair wants to stand but Lee is controlling the position. Lee wants to control from the top but Leclair keeps moving. Leclair keeping full guard, as Lee tries to pass.
That's one minute gone in the round. Lee has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Leclair is proving hard to escape from. Lee postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Leclair is pulling down on Lee's head. It's preventing any offense from Lee, at least for the moment.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Left hook, right uppercut from Lee. Some wild striking there from Lee.
Leclair moves into the clinch. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Leclair gets a trip takedown into half guard. Leclair missing with some ground and pound from the half guard. Lee looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Leclair is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound. Lee slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work. Leclair is in a tricky position. We've heard reports from his gym mates at that he's been drilling escapes, so let's see if he can get back to his feet. Lee has momentary wrist control but Leclair slips an elbow through the middle. Our spies down at at St Petersburg MMA Gym inform us that Lee has really been working on his submissions in the buildup to this fight. Will it pay off? Lee is working for submissions here. He's thrown up his legs looking for a triangle but Leclair frees his head nicely. Oh but Lee has switched to an armbar! Leclair is tapping furiously! Lovely submission there!
