PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Armin Schwertfisch (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jeroen Heijdens (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jeroen Heijdens!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Heijdens looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Schwertfisch has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Heijdens is working away from the top position though.
Schwertfisch wants to improve his position but Heijdens is controlling well.

Heijdens is trying to work for a kimura. He's got his hands clasped together - this could be trouble! No, Schwertfisch has managed to free his arm - good work.

Heijdens is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Heijdens seems to be looking for submissions.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Schwertfisch is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Heijdens scores with a couple of nice shots.

Heijdens postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Schwertfisch looks a forlorn figure.

Heijdens is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Schwertfisch has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Schwertfisch!

Schwertfisch misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Schwertfisch throws a shot from downtown. Heijdens moves away and avoids it.

Heijdens shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Schwertfisch's guard.
Heijdens has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Heijdens is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Armin Schwertfisch.
I think Heijdens has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
