The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.
Vega stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Vega wants it to stay on the feet.

Varona closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Vega is pushing Varona's head away, looking to escape. Varona manages to hold on to the position though.

Varona thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Varona has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Varona tries to score with some ground and pound. Vega controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.

Varona has an Americana. Vega didn't react quickly enough there and he's in big trouble now! He tries to squirm out but is forced to tap! Varona is delighted and gyrates in front of the ring girls. They seem to like the attention - it'll be interesting to see if Varona hooks up with any of them at the after show party.
