Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Cain Velasquez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Junior Dos Santos (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Cain Velasquez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Junior Dos Santos!
The judges for this bout are Hugh Johnson, Donatello Bradman and John Mangel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Dos Santos breaks from the clinch.
Dos Santos connects with a body shot.
Dos Santos gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Velasquez counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Velasquez really is a fat lump.
Dos Santos keeps control of Velasquez as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Dos Santos tries to pull guard but Velasquez holds him up against the cage and eventually Dos Santos drops back down to his feet.

Velasquez wants to sweep here but Dos Santos controlling him for the moment.
Velasquez has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Dos Santos wants to get up but he can't break Velasquez's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Velasquez is trying to control the position but Dos Santos postures up.
Dos Santos really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Velasquez. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Cain Velasquez has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Velasquez defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Dos Santos.
Cain Velasquez has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Junior Dos Santos.

Dos Santos feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Velasquez wants to stand but Dos Santos is controlling the position.

Dos Santos avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

Dos Santos must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Velasquez has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Velasquez there as he acknowledges the shot.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Dos Santos takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Velasquez on the wrong end of a kick to the body.
Dos Santos shoots in and drives through. Velasquez sprawls well.
Velasquez fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Dos Santos avoids it really well and circles away.
Velasquez is breathing heavily.
Velasquez dodges the punch combination from Dos Santos.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Velasquez feints and as Dos Santos raises his hands in defense, Velasquez changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Cain Velasquez will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Crunch! Dos Santos slams his shin into Velasquez's torso.
Velasquez avoids a punch combination nicely.
Dos Santos tries to clinch but Velasquez is having none of it.
Nice body punch from Dos Santos.
Dos Santos goes for a high kick. It partially lands.
Dos Santos darts in and out, connecting with a jab.

Velasquez shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Velasquez slips a nice elbow through Dos Santos's hands, connecting with Dos Santos's forehead.

Dos Santos moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Velasquez drops back looking for a leg! Dos Santos is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Dos Santos manages to kick Velasquez off! Velasquez jumps back into Dos Santos's guard.
Velasquez scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Velasquez stands and throws Dos Santos's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Velasquez has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Dos Santos is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Velasquez yanks on the arm and Dos Santos is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Velasquez.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:59 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Cain Velasquez!
After winning the bout, Cain Velasquez thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
