PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Bobby McCalls (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Xander Hogsback (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Xander Hogsback was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Bobby McCalls!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Xander Hogsback!
The judges for this bout are Franklyn Lucas, Lou da Vinci and Russell Pearce.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

McCalls drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
McCalls content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.
Hogsback is looking for a sweep.
A lull in the action here.
Hogsback struggling a bit here.
Hogsback is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

Hogsback manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Hogsback holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.
McCalls trying to mount his opponent but Hogsback defends it.
McCalls thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Hogsback tries to roll over but McCalls keeps him under control.
Hogsback is not content to let McCalls control the position.

McCalls is figuring out what he wants to do next.

Bobby McCalls has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
McCalls is trying hard to land a takedown here. Hogsback sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Hogsback checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.
McCalls throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Hogsback's waist but Hogsback gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing McCalls off to one side.

McCalls closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Hogsback did well to prevent McCalls getting side control.
McCalls is thwarting Hogsback's attempts to control the position.
McCalls thows a huge punch but Hogsback dodges it nicely.

Hogsback is trying to maintain the position but McCalls is very close to passing his half guard.
McCalls trying to control from Hogsback's half guard. Hogsback has other ideas though and has regained full guard.
McCalls is looking to work some ground and pound but Hogsback has wrist control.
Hogsback looking for a sweep. Not yet Hogsback, not yet.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as McCalls accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
McCalls trying to control but Hogsback is working from the bottom.

Hogsback seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Hogsback wants to sweep here but McCalls controlling him for the moment.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
McCalls takes a swing at Hogsback's ribcage but misses.
McCalls goes for a double leg but Hogsback avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Hogsback continues to drive forward.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Bobby McCalls. That's going to take a lot out of him.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
McCalls tries to work over Hogsback's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
McCalls tries to circle away but Hogsback has him pinned against the cage.
McCalls is trying to drag Hogsback to the mat but Hogsback just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Hogsback shoots in but no luck this time.
McCalls darts in looking for a takedown but Hogsback gets double underhooks and turns McCalls into the cage.

Hogsback works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.
Hogsback stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. McCalls swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Hogsback trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but McCalls manages to land a sweep and now he's on top!
Hogsback bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in McCalls's guard.

Hogsback wants to pass the guard but McCalls is keeping the position.
Xander Hogsback has got the better of the ground game so far.
Hogsback distracts McCalls with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
McCalls is trying to keep Hogsback in close.
Hogsback controls from within his opponent's guard.
Hogsback works a leg free and moves into half guard.
McCalls is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Hogsback is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Hogsback blocks the strikes from McCalls.
Hogsback trying to pass the guard but McCalls defending well.
McCalls is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Hogsback trying to control from half guard but McCalls is working away.

Hogsback is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

McCalls won't allow Hogsback to pass to mount.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hogsback trying to control the action but McCalls is working from the bottom.

McCalls gets full guard.
McCalls looking to hit a scissor sweep but Hogsback is one step ahead there.
Hogsback stands and throws McCalls's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Hogsback goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, McCalls rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Hogsback's guard! Nice work there by McCalls!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
McCalls wants to control from the top but Hogsback keeps moving.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Xander Hogsback showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Hogsback misses with a takedown
and McCalls counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
McCalls has his takedown stuffed

and Hogsback holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Hogsback is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but McCalls is defending well.

Hogsback drags the fight down to the ground.
McCalls tries to stand but Hogsback is controlling from the bottom.
Hogsback keeping moving, preventing McCalls from controlling successfully.
Hogsback looking to control but McCalls passes into half guard.

Hogsback wants to control but McCalls is keeping busy.

McCalls is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Hogsback defends it well.
McCalls wants to lay and pray for a moment but Hogsback keeps working.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Hogsback is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of McCalls's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take McCalls's back!
Hogsback has the hooks in. McCalls is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.
McCalls looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment.
Hogsback missing with punches from the back.
McCalls has the hand control, trying to stop the rear naked choke.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Hogsback has his arm under McCalls's chin here. Game over son! Hogsback squeezes tightly and McCalls is forced to tap out!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:20 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Xander Hogsback!
A relieved looking Xander Hogsback thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
