PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Dusty Stanton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Robert Boone (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Dusty Stanton!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Robert Boone!
The judges for this bout are John Kavanagh, Reed Andrews and Jonathan Paton.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Stanton closes the distance and clinches.
Stanton really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Stanton manages to pull guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Boone stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Stanton swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Boone slips nicely into half guard.
Stanton trying to control but Boone postures up.
Boone wants to stand but Stanton has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.
Stanton is looking to control Boone's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Stanton avoid being mounted?
Boone tries to pass the half guard into mount. Stanton knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Stanton is trying to maintain the position but Boone is very close to passing his half guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Dusty Stanton.
Boone looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Boone shoots in but no luck this time.
Boone fails with the takedown

and Stanton counters by moving into the clinch.
Dusty Stanton has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Robert Boone.
Boone tries to pull guard but Stanton forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows.

Boone avoiding damage as Stanton throws knees to the body.
Stanton throws a knee to the head but misses.

Stanton tightens his grip and picks Boone up, before dumping him to the ground. Boone manages to land in guard.

Stanton has gone for a leg lock! Boone slips out almost immediately though and dives into Stanton's guard.

Boone avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Boone wants to control from the top but Stanton keeps moving.

Stanton has a closed guard, preventing Boone from standing up.
Boone throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Stanton will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
Stanton wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

Boone is fighting to break Stanton's control of his arms but Stanton is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

Boone engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Stanton doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Boone must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Boone looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Boone fails in his attempt to clinch.

and Stanton counters with a takedown into side control.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Stanton is trying to get an arm triangle but Boone is defending well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dusty Stanton dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Boone throws a right and a left that both miss.
No luck for Boone with that takedown attempt.
Stanton throws a sloppy head kick and Boone moves out of range easily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Boone moves in looking to clinch but Stanton pushes him off.
Robert Boone is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Boone shoots and misses

and Stanton counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Boone misses with some strikes from the bottom.
Stanton throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

Stanton seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Boone does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Stanton is controlling the pace.
Boone is looking to improve his position.
Boone trying to keep hold of his opponent's head but Stanton manages to pass to mount!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Boone tries to control the position but Stanton now has his back.
Dusty Stanton overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Boone is defending well here and trying to improve his position.

Boone wants to control his opponent's hands but Stanton gets his hands free.
You can see the frustration on Boone's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.

Stanton is persistently looking for the submission but Boone is defending it well.
Stanton will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Will Stanton go for the finish here or will he try and keep control of the position?

Stanton is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Boone has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Stanton really has the hooks in deep now - there seems like no escape for Boone.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!


Boone stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.

Boone closes the distance and clinches.
Boone prevents a takedown attempt there.
Stanton is trying to pull guard but Boone turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
Boone has Stanton pressed against the cage.
Boone looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Stanton tries a body shot but Boone blocks it.

Stanton on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Stanton misses with an elbow over the top.
Stanton tries to work over Boone's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Stanton prevents the takedown attempt.
Stanton goes for a takedown attempt but Boone pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Dusty Stanton. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Boone tries to clinch but Stanton moves out of range.
Boone tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Stanton paws at him with a jab and circles away.
The fight stays on the outside here - Boone looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Boone closes the distance and clinches up with Stanton, looking for a takedown. Boone pushes Stanton against the cage but Stanton circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Boone takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Stanton tries to land knees in the clinch but Boone avoids the damage to the body.

Stanton goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Boone wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Boone tries to score a body lock takedown but Stanton shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Stanton fails to pull guard.
Stanton lands with a light punch inside.
Boone wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Stanton has him pressed against the cage.
Boone tries to break the clinch but Stanton is controlling the position.
Stanton scores with a knee to the head.
Boone on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Boone is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Boone tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Stanton smiles and moves away.
Boone closes the distance looking to clinch

so Stanton counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Stanton drops back looking for a leg! Boone is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Boone manages to kick Stanton off! Stanton jumps back into Boone's guard.
Stanton slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Dusty Stanton.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Stanton, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
