The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Berzins pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Pochinski throws out a token jab with nothing on it. Nice cross by Pochinski. Berzins scores with a head kick. Pochinski tried to block it but didn't get his arm up in time.
It looks like Zander Pochinski has been cut. Pochinski throws a right and a left that both miss. Berzins throws a low kick but Pochinski moves out of range easily. Berzins's coach down at The Pit was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Berzins's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight. Berzins tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Pochinski is able to avoid easily. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Pochinski ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Berzins moves away. Berzins will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.

Berzins lands an elbow inside that Pochinski shrugs off. An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Pochinski. Berzins creates a bit of distance and throws an elbow that only just misses. Berzins pushes off and fires off an elbow that misses, before clinching up again, against the cage. A nice glancing elbow lands by Berzins.
That's one minute gone in the round. Pochinski has a couple of punches blocked by Berzins.

I was talking to Pochinski's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight. Berzins lands an elbow that stopped Pochinski in his tracks for a moment. Berzins prevents a body shot from Pochinski. Pochinski misses with a punch on the inside.
Berzins's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Pochinski swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Pochinski slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range. Pochinski takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh. Zander Pochinski seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Berzins lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh. Pochinski tries to clinch but Berzins moves out of range. Berzins throws a leg kick but Pochinski moved away. Berzins lands a big head kick that sends Pochinski tumbling to the mat! Berzins takes a step backwards and waves Pochinski back to his feet - he wants the finish! Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Pochinski swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Pochinski tries to clinch up. Berzins turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick. Berzins misses with an attempted mid kick.
Good work by Berzins as he checks the leg kick. That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Pochinski crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Berzins - the referee stops the clock and Pochinski gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Berzins. Pochinski manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes. Pochinski throws a series of strikes that have Berzins backpedaling.
Pochinski wants to clinch. Good leg kick by Berzins there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Berzins tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Berzins throws a body kick that digs right into the meat. Berzins scores with a leg kick.
Pochinski is breathing heavily. Berzins uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Pochinski.
Berzins lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise. Berzins turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.

Pochinski is rocked! This has been an exciting period of action! Pochinski on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those. Oh Pochinski is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!! Berzins throws a body kick that digs right into the meat. Pochinski takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?
Pochinski seems to have got his legs back now. Berzins connects with a leg kick. Pochinski looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it. Berzins and Pochinski are patiently standing in front of each other looking for an opening. Berzins throws a head kick. It's landed, knocking Pochinski into next week! Ooooh that was huge! Berzins knows it - he's on the cage flexing is biceps. That's a bit weird considering he won by kick but whatever.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:21 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Head Kick). Chris Berzins! A relieved looking Chris Berzins thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
