PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Kurt Cobb (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Yuri Komarov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 1, fighting out of St Petersburg, Kurt Cobb!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Yuri Komarov!
The judges for this bout are Valeri Chadov, Fedor Mirinova and Viktor Lagutenko.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cobb misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Cobb will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Komarov tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Cobb swivels and escapes.
Komarov stuffs the takedown attempt from Cobb. Cobb gets slowly back to his feet.
Komarov fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

and Komarov decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Cobb's guard.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Kurt Cobb. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Komarov in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

Cobb has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Komarov can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Cobb wants to improve his position but instead Komarov has moved into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Komarov tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Cobb.
Komarov takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Cobb wants to control but Komarov is keeping busy.
Cobb wants to improve his position but Komarov is controlling well.

Komarov decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Cobb tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Komarov shoots in for a takedown but Cobb shows good takedown defense.

Komarov fails with a takedown attempt.

Cobb gets caught flat footed, as Komarov shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Cobb is trying to keep Komarov in close.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Komarov has gone for a leg lock! Cobb slips out almost immediately though and dives into Komarov's guard.
Komarov looks winded!

Komarov can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Cobb controls the pace.

Komarov manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Cobb manages to get himself to full guard.
Komarov trying to control the position from guard on top but Cobb is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Komarov wants to stand but Cobb is controlling his posture from full guard.

Cobb has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Komarov is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Cobb.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Komarov is looking to take a break and control but Cobb is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Komarov swats away the attempt to clinch by Cobb.
Cobb misses with a takedown attempt - Komarov sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Cobb shoots in but no luck this time.
Cobb looks to land a combination but Komarov avoids it well.
Kurt Cobb seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

and Komarov counters with a takedown into side control.

Cobb is working to avoid the ground and pound but Komarov connects with a decent elbow.

Komarov in side control lands a decent elbow.
Komarov landing a few strikes.
The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Komarov. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.
Komarov is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
Cobb is looking for a sweep.
Komarov works to advance to full mount. Cobb defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.
Cobb sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Cobb can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Komarov controls the pace.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Cobb looking for a sweep. Not yet Cobb, not yet.
Cobb has control of Komarov's left arm, preventing Komarov from doing any damage.
Komarov slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Yuri Komarov wasn't active enough on the ground.
Cobb scores with a shot to the body.
Cobb shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Komarov pinned against the cage. Komarov gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Cobb is looking to clinch but Komarov is avoiding it.
Komarov fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Cobb avoids it really well and circles away.

and Komarov counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Komarov stands up over Cobb, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Komarov not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Komarov won't allow Cobb to sweep him here.
Cobb will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Kurt Cobb just wasn't active enough.
Komarov tries to bum rush Cobb with a series of wild strikes but Cobb uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Yuri Komarov showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!



Cobb clinches with his opponent.

Komarov is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Cobb can't fight it off and eventually Komarov manages to take the fight to the floor. Cobb looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Komarov is keen to just control but Cobb is a slippery customer.

Komarov is looking to take a break and control but Cobb is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Cobb has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Komarov is working away from the top position though.
Komarov is controlling the pace.
Komarov wants to control but Cobb is keeping him busy.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Yuri Komarov hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Komarov shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Cobb defends it nicely.
Cobb shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Komarov but Komarov pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Cobb moves in looking to clinch but Komarov pushes him off.
Cobb misses with a low kick.

and Komarov counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Cobb!
Komarov takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Komarov misses with an attempted head punch from side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Cobb tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Komarov wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
You can see the frustration on Cobb's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Cobb is not content to let Komarov control the position.
Komarov takes a little break here. Cobb wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.
Yuri Komarov has got the better of the ground game so far.
Komarov tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.

Komarov thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Cobb is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Komarov is one step ahead and moves to full mount!
Komarov looking to control but Cobb is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Cobb is trying to escape the mount.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Komarov lands a big shot there that rocks Cobb but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.

And that's the end of the fight!
Yuri Komarov comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Komarov winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
