The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Leandro Rodrigues and Luis Engracia.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smith misses the jab.
Alves throws a hook but Smith avoids it easily.
Smith throws a hook to the side of Alves's head but Alves sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Alves uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Smith.
Smith takes a swing at Alves's ribcage but misses.
Smith bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Alves misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Smith lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Alves loads up on a big right hand but Smith slips the punch.
Alves throws a nice head kick!
Smith gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Alves lands a body punch in the clinch.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Smith using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Alves has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.

With the fighters clinched against the cage, Smith creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.

Smith tries to work over Alves's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.

Alves has Smith pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Smith manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Alves's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button!
It looks like Danilo Alves has been cut.

Smith misses with a knee strike.
Alves blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.

Alves wants to break free but Smith has control.
Alves struggles to land a body shot inside as Smith controls his hands.
Alves tries to land a knee to the head but Smith blocks with his arms.

Smith has Alves pressed up against the cage in a tight Thai clinch. Alves is arching his back, trying to avoid the knees but a big one sneaks through from Smith - that's hurt Alves badly! Oh, another knee lands and Alves is covering up! The referee steps in to save him - possibly a bit early but Alves doesn't seem to be complaining.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:16 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Knees). Donovan Smith!
