PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Greg Thornton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rubstoo Grimwacker (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Rubstoo Grimwacker!
The judges for this bout are James Ackerman, James Atkins and Richard Clark.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Thornton lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
Grimwacker tries to clinch up.

Grimwacker throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Thornton counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Thornton throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.
Thornton pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Thornton feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Grimwacker manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Thornton manages to get himself to full guard.

Thornton seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Thornton is looking to advance position but Grimwacker won't allow it.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Thornton seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Thornton stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Grimwacker swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Thornton tries for a takedown but Grimwacker sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Grimwacker swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

Thornton darts in and clinches Grimwacker up against the cage.
Thornton keeps control of Grimwacker as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

Thornton escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!



Thornton fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Grimwacker sprawls well initially but Thornton persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Thornton seems to be trying to get a kimura but instead Grimwacker has recovered full guard.
Thornton wants to control from the top but Grimwacker keeps moving.

Thornton would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Grimwacker is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Thornton.

Thornton gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
A decent looking body kick lands there for Thornton.
Grimwacker takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.

Thornton scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Grimwacker wants to control but Thornton passes into side.
Grimwacker tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Thornton wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Thornton decides to stand up, so the ref orders Grimwacker to his feet.
Grimwacker wants to clinch but Thornton slips to the side
and Thornton counters with a nice body shot.
A punch combination from Grimwacker misses.
Thornton will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Nice body punch from Thornton - that landed with a thud.

Thornton has clasped his hands together around Grimwacker's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
Grimwacker is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Thornton tries to pass the half guard into mount. Grimwacker knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Rubstoo Grimwacker has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Grimwacker looking for a triangle here. Thornton is fighting it but it looks tight! Grimwacker pulls the arm across and this one won't last much longer! Nope, Thornton is tapping out - this one is all over!
