Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Fernando Park! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Benson Henderson! The judges for this bout are Hugh Johnson, Eliza Hachem and Winston Howard.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Park throws a sloppy head kick and Henderson moves out of range easily. Henderson misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Park.
Henderson has his takedown stuffed and Park counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Henderson's guard now. If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup. Henderson controls Park momentarily but Park frees himself. Park content to stall in guard here. Park is looking to stand up but Henderson won't let him. Henderson wants to control the position but Park says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard. Henderson won't allow Park to pass to mount. Henderson trying to control from the bottom.
Park really is a fat lump. Henderson is looking to improve his position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Park perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Horrible takedown by Henderson or perhaps it was just good defense by Park which made him look bad. Henderson gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Park to score an easy takedown into full guard. Henderson has a closed guard, preventing Park from standing up. Park scoring with punches to the head and body.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Park is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. Park passes easily into side control. Nice work. Park moves into full mount! Park lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Park controlling from mount. Henderson really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Park. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Henderson tries to hold on but Park pushes him away.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Park working Henderson over with strikes here. Park working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet. Park controlling his opponent. Park's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground. Park looking to isolate an arm here. Henderson doesn't see it coming and as Park extends the arm, he's forced to tap out! Nice submission by Park!
