Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Valentin Stokes! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Brian Gummidge! The judges for this bout are James Atkins, Paul Tew and Daniel Bishop.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Stokes tries to bum rush Gummidge with a series of wild strikes but Gummidge uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Stokes darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard. The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup. The fighters are battling for position here. Gummidge manages to regain full guard. Nice work. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Stokes got a little sloppy there for a moment and Gummidge has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Stokes has managed to get both his arms back between Gummidge's legs - danger averted. Gummidge striking off his back, scoring a few points. Stokes controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. Stokes looking to pass the guard. Gummidge is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Stokes is aware though and is defending well. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Gummidge wants to sweep but no luck. Stokes scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
That's one minute gone in the round. Stokes won't allow Gummidge to sweep him here. Stokes will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Stokes controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. Stokes trying to control but Gummidge is working from the bottom. Gummidge controls Stokes momentarily but Stokes frees himself. Stokes wants to pass the guard but Gummidge is keeping the position. Gummidge keeping moving, preventing Stokes from controlling successfully.
The ref stands the fighters back up. Valentin Stokes wasn't doing enough on the ground. Gummidge doesn't succeed with the takedown and Stokes holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch. Stokes's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Gummidge shoots in looking for a takedown. Stokes tries to sprawl out of it but Gummidge keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Stokes manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Stokes really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Gummidge looks winded!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Stokes fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Gummidge sprawls well initially but Stokes persists and gets the takedown into half guard. Stokes seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Gummidge does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. Gummidge is looking to control Stokes's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Gummidge avoid being mounted? He's simply no match for Gummidge on the ground. Gummidge wants to control but Stokes is keeping busy and won't allow it. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Gummidge. Valentin Stokes has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Brian Gummidge. Stokes rushes Gummidge and presses him up against the cage. Gummidge is trying to pull guard but Stokes has him pressed against the cage. A bit of stalling here from Stokes.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Stokes lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Gummidge has hold of Stokes's hands but Stokes slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow. Gummidge looking to force a kimura from the bottom here. He's concentrating on that move too much though and Stokes pushes past his half guard into mount! Stokes controlling from mount. Gummidge keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Stokes is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Gummidge can't stay in a position like this for much longer.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Stokes trying to control but Gummidge is having none of it. Stokes scores with a couple of good head shots there.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Gummidge takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position. Stokes pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage. Stokes controlling the position easily from mount. Gummidge throwing hammer fists to the chest of Stokes. What's that going to do exactly? As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Stokes avoids the attempt from Gummidge to control. Stokes prevents Gummidge from getting the reversal. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Valentin Stokes dominated that round. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
Gummidge fails with the takedown and Stokes makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range. Stokes gets a double leg takedown into Gummidge's guard. Stokes is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions. Stokes trying to control but Gummidge is working from the bottom. Gummidge looking to try and escape his hips here, looking for a submission. It looks like he's going for a triangle but Stokes is defending well. Gummidge quickly switches to an armbar and extends the arm! Stokes has no choice but to tap, to a very quick submission! Wow, that was lightning fast! Gummidge celebrates on the cage, with the crowd.
