Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 5 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Jon Aguirre! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Alex Peligrino! The judges for this bout are Konstantin Menshow, Igor Prikhodko and Viktor Lagutenko.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Aguirre fails to land the takedown. Peligrino bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up. Peligrino scores with punches from side control. Peligrino throwing shots but missing, from side control. Peligrino sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Aguirre is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
Aguirre might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Peligrino scoring with punches and elbows. Peligrino connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Aguirre some visible discomfort.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Peligrino throws an elbow but Aguirre slips to the side and avoids it well. Peligrino sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Aguirre is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
Peligrino lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Peligrino scoring with punches and elbows. Aguirre is trying to escape and get back to his feet. Aguirre gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there! Peligrino lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's one minute gone in the round. The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Peligrino cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
The referee warns Aguirre that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Peligrino should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete. Peligrino is in the full mount, landing strikes. Aguirre is in a horrible position here. Peligrino smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
Peligrino landing strikes from the mount and Aguirre is in trouble!
Aguirre is rocked! Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! A big strike lands for Peligrino! That's really hurt Aguirre and he's turned his back - Peligrino keeps firing away and the ref dives in to stop the fight! Peligrino jumps to his feet to celebrate the victory!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:42 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Alex Peligrino!
