Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Leon Solis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Alfonso Marquez !
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Timothy Bukovac and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Marquez is defended easily by Solis.
Solis goes for a double leg but Marquez avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Marquez continues to drive forward.

Marquez manages to break the clinch.
Marquez shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Solis as he avoids it easily.
Marquez fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Solis manages to avoid it.
Marquez misses with a jab to the body
and Solis counters with a one-two to the body.
Solis will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Marquez lands with a kick to the ribs.
Decent striking displayed by Solis there.
Marquez shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Solis pinned against the cage. Solis gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Leon Solis has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Alfonso Marquez .
Solis tries to clinch but Marquez is having none of it.

Marquez shoots in looking for a takedown. Solis tries to sprawl out of it but Marquez keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Solis manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Solis misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Marquez moves in looking to clinch but Solis pushes him off.
Solis goes for a double leg but Marquez avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Marquez continues to drive forward.

Marquez drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Marquez tries to pull guard but Solis holds him up against the cage and eventually Marquez drops back down to his feet.

Marquez tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Solis smiles and moves away.

Solis drives through and clinches with Marquez against the cage.
Solis is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Marquez pulls him back up using the underhooks.

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Solis wriggles free and stands up.
Marquez moves out of range of the leg kick from Solis.
Marquez stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Marquez wants it to stay on the feet.

Marquez throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Solis tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Marquez is in Solis's guard.
Marquez wants to control from the top but Solis keeps moving.

Marquez wanted to stand there but Solis had control of the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Marquez passes Solis's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Solis gets back to full guard.

Solis is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Marquez is aware though and is defending well.

Solis working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Marquez doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Marquez manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

That was a close round but I would say that Leon Solis will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Solis dives in and grabs Marquez 's left leg, looking for a takedown. Marquez pushes down on Solis's head and hops out.

Solis gets a clinch.
Marquez goes for a takedown attempt but Solis pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Solis motions for Marquez to come forward. Solis throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Solis cracks Marquez with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.
Marquez tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Solis paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Solis throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Marquez closes the distance and clinches up with Solis, looking for a takedown. Marquez pushes Solis against the cage but Solis circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Solis looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Marquez is fending him off so far but Solis persists. Nope, Marquez circles away and we're back to standing.

Marquez fails with an attempt to clinch.
Horrible takedown by Marquez or perhaps it was just good defense by Solis which made him look bad.
Leon Solis has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Alfonso Marquez .
Solis circles away from the clinch attempt.
Marquez is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Marquez tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Solis rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Marquez moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Marquez is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Solis is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Solis has escaped and now he's on top!

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

We're going to have a standup here because Leon Solis wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

Solis looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

That was a close second round but I would say that Leon Solis will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!

Marquez misses with a takedown attempt - Solis sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Marquez tries to clinch up but Solis circles away and keeps his distance.
Marquez moves in looking to clinch but Solis pushes him off.
Marquez changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Solis tries to avoid it but Marquez manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Solis to the ground. Solis escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Marquez darts in looking for a takedown but Solis gets double underhooks and turns Marquez into the cage.

Solis escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Solis tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Marquez defends well and Solis ends up having to push Marquez into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Marquez is trying to maintain the position but Solis is very close to passing his half guard.
Solis uses his free foot to push down on Marquez 's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Marquez .
Solis prevents Marquez from getting the reversal.
Solis misses with a head shot.

Solis stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing.

Solis lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.

Solis pushes Marquez up against the cage in a clinch.

Marquez keeps control of Solis as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Solis has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Marquez after a bit of a struggle.
Marquez wants a takedown.
Solis has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
