PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Carlos Monroe (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rocky Bullwinkle (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Monroe comes into the arena with Danzig - Mother blaring out of the sound system. I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bullwinkle on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.

Monroe gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Bullwinkle to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Bullwinkle tries to free his leg and advance position but Monroe is retaining full guard.

Monroe manages to escape and get back to his feet.
Bullwinkle is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Bullwinkle fails with the takedown.

Bullwinkle closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Monroe to the mat! Monroe manages to get full guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Bullwinkle thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Bullwinkle stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Monroe swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Bullwinkle prevents Monroe from getting back to his feet.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Bullwinkle accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Monroe buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.

Bullwinkle shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Monroe as he jumps to the side.
Monroe lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.

Monroe takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
Monroe's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Monroe duly obliges.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Monroe tries to bum rush Bullwinkle with a series of wild strikes but Bullwinkle uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Monroe throws a series of punches but Bullwinkle avoids them all with ease.
Monroe stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Monroe wants it to stay on the feet.

Monroe misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

Bullwinkle closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Monroe throws Bullwinkle to one side and escapes!
We've been told by Monroe's head coaches at ACADEMIA ESPARTANA ® that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Bullwinkle misses with a hook.
Monroe looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Monroe defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Bullwinkle.
Bullwinkle slips a jab and a cross from Monroe.
Bullwinkle throws a right and a left that both miss.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Monroe crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Bullwinkle - the referee stops the clock and Monroe gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Bullwinkle. Monroe manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Bullwinkle shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Monroe as he avoids it easily.
Monroe throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Monroe misses with a wild combination.

Monroe connects with the punch.
Monroe scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.

Bullwinkle fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Monroe sprawls well initially but Bullwinkle persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Bullwinkle is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Monroe has managed to free his arm - good work.
Bullwinkle landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Monroe is trying to stand.

Bullwinkle is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Monroe is just riding it out for now. Bullwinkle eventually gives up the hold.
Bullwinkle stops Monroe from getting back to his feet.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Bullwinkle is working for a kimura but Monroe is defending it quite comfortably.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Rocky Bullwinkle will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Monroe is pushing Bullwinkle's head away, looking to escape. Bullwinkle manages to hold on to the position though.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Monroe trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.

Bullwinkle is working to tighten his grip on Monroe's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Monroe has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Bullwinkle is really squeezing tight and eventually Monroe passes out! Bullwinkle breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!
