Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Daren Welch (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Veldrin Hope (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Veldrin Hope will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Daren Welch! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Veldrin Hope! The judges for this bout are Anni Minnemäki, Johanna Lukiainen and Tarja Halkonen.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Hope goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo. Veldrin Hope seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Hope is looking to clinch. Hope wants to clinch. Hope tries to clinch but fails miserably and Welch holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch. A head punch blocked on the inside by Welch. Welch gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Hope regains guard.
Hope is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Welch loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Welch is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound. Welch wanted to stand there but Hope had control of the position. Hope wants to stand up but Welch is controlling him. Welch is stalling in the full guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Hope has an active guard here but Welch has managed to pass into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Hope trying to hold on to Welch's head to control him but Welch postures up.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Welch prevents Hope from improving his position. Hope slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work. Welch has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Hope wants to sweep but no luck. Welch distracts Hope with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm. Welch is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Welch throws a big right hand that misses.
The ref stands the fighters back up because Daren Welch just wasn't active enough. Hope stalks Welch and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Welch's face. Welch staggers backwards, shaken. Welch throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Hope tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Welch is in Hope's guard. Hope looking for a guillotine here but Welch defends easily.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Welch drops back looking for a leg! Hope is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Hope manages to kick Welch off! Welch jumps back into Hope's guard. Hope trying to keep a closed guard but Welch is proving a slippery customer.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Welch wants to control from the top but Hope keeps moving. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Daren Welch dominated that round. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Welch throws a lazy right hand but Hope sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily. Welch looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Welch slips a jab and a cross from Hope.

It looks like Daren Welch has been cut. Hope throws a head kick that Welch semi-blocks.
Hope shoots in looking for a takedown. Welch tries to sprawl out of it but Hope keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Welch manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Hope looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. Hope throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Welch. Hope is breathing heavily. A clash of legs there as Welch blocks the low kick.
That's one minute gone in the round. Hope fails to land with a series of punches.
Hope looks to land a combination but Welch avoids it well. Hope fails with an attempt to clinch.

Welch scores with a takedown into Hope's guard. Welch stays in close to Hope's body and controls the position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Hope looking to hit a scissor sweep but Welch is one step ahead there.
The ref stands the fighters back up. Daren Welch wasn't doing enough on the ground. Hope throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Welch bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Hope gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard. Still in half guard, Welch seems content to control. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Welch passes the guard and advances to mount! Welch controlling from the full mount. Hope is trying to escape the mount.
Welch tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Welch punishing his opponent with strikes. Welch content just to control the position here. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Hope gets back to half guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Welch scores with a takedown into Hope's guard. Welch stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Hope swivels though and keeps the full guard. Hope is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Welch landing with the ground and pound. Hope wants to control but Welch passes easily into half guard.

Daren Welch overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Welch sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment. Welch tries to control but Hope wriggling away. Hope wants to control but Welch is having none of it. Hope is trying to escape the mount.
Hope keeps trying to improve his position. Hope takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Welch landing strikes from the mount and Hope is in trouble! Welch tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position. Welch prevents Hope from getting the reversal.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Welch takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. Welch looking to control but Hope is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. Hope in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head. Veldrin Hope has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Welch takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. Daren Welch is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
